Book excerpt: This special edition of the Lectures on Faith from Zion’s Camp Books is formatted for convenience on an eReader, with more than 100 internal links to scriptures and citations. We hope it will give you a great reading experience! The Lectures on Faith were originally prepared as materials for the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio in 1834 and were included in the Doctrine and Covenants from 1835 to 1921. Although the Lectures on Faith have never been accepted as revelation by the body of the church (and so were removed from the Doctrine and Covenants in 1921), they contain important doctrinal insights that can help anyone seeking to learn more about faith and come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. President Joseph Fielding Smith noted, “I suppose that the rising generation knows little about the Lectures on Faith. . . . In my own judgment, these Lectures are of great value and should be studied. . . . I consider them to be of extreme value in the study of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” (Joseph Fielding Smith, Seek Ye Earnestly. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1970.) Elder Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has stated the lectures contain “some of the best lesson material ever prepared on the Godhead; on the character, perfections, and attributes of God; on faith, miracles, and sacrifice. They can be studied with great profit by all gospel scholars.” (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine. Salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1966.)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever asked yourself the question,"That doesn't seem very Christian like, does it?" When has this occurred? Was it at church or on a Christian TV show? How about a friend or neighbor that you know personally, and they claim to be a Christian. Are there any rules for us as regular everyday humans to know or discern whether or not someone is who they say they are? The answer is an unequivocal yes! God has plainly said in His word that only He has the right to judge some ones salvation. After all that is what Christianity is really all about, who is a follower of Jesus Christ! You see God is the only one that has the ability to see inside of a man or woman to their very core, their heart. Only He can know the thoughts and intents of the heart according to the book of Hebrews. He has however told us that every man, woman or child will exhibit fruit. This fruit will show itself in the form of our character. Then God said that we would know them by their fruit. In other words, we are to be fruit inspectors. To be a God ordained fruit inspector, you must first know what the fruit is and what a good fruit is supposed to look like. This takes training by someone who is an accomplished inspector and a desire on your part to become a good inspector. As the government hires and trains people to inspect our meat, vegetables and fruit, for our health, so God takes you and I, trains us to be fruit inspectors for our spiritual health.

Book excerpt: God is a close friend to all believers, but how well do you really know this God of love and mercy? How can we be like him if we do not know and understand who he is? In "God Is..." author Inalie Painter uses insightful observations, anecdotes, and biblical illustrations to help readers discover the character of our great and sovereign God. By increasing our knowledge of who God is, we will increase our understanding of him and his expectations for his people. Like Paul, our goal should be to 'know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to his death' (Philippians 3:10, NKJ). Your knowledge of God will certainly increase as you read "God Is..." "God Is..." is a warm commentary on the multiple facets of the character of God. ...a delightful read and an inspiration to share the greatness of God with others. -Conrad Hurd, Missionary with Wycliffe Bible Translators for forty-nine years The Hebrews told stories of God's mighty deeds, the prophets reported direct encounters with God, the Greeks devised endless myths of the gods, early Christians wrestled with the incarnation of God and theologians have argued the nature of God for centuries. In "God Is..."Author Inalie Painter, with her well-read Bible in hand, simply tells us what she knows God to be. -Dave Sheffel, ThM, Bible Teacher

Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1819 edition. Excerpt: ... If you are a friend to God, God will be an everlasting friend to you. Nothing shall separate you from His love. "Neither angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus your Lord." ESSAY VII. REPENTANCE. The fall of Adam involved both himself and his posterity in sin and ruin. From the moment of the first transgression, sin challenged universal empire. From tint fatal hour, it began to assume dominion, with Hie certain prospect of swaying its sceptre over every clime and every heart, lint blessed he God, though its empire is universal, it is not in all its extent everlasting. There is One who taketh the prey from the mighty. The conqueror is vanquished. Though sin reigns unto death, grace reigns unto eternal life. A mere glance at the ruin and recovery of man is enough to convince us, that, of the religion of fallen beings, repentance forms an essential part. It is alike significant of the character and indispensable to the happiness ii a Converted Sinker, to be penitent. In the order of gracious exercises, repentance follows love to God. An affectionate view of God, prepares the mind to take a just view of sin. As it is impossible to repent of having sinned against a God that we hate; so it is impossible not to repent of having sinned against a God that we love. When the heart has been renewed; when the soul enlightened by the Divine Spirit, sees the beauty, the loveliness of the Divine character--it cannot seriously reflect upon a life of sin without unfeigned grief. "Godly sorrow worketb repentance to salvation, not to be repented of; but the sorrow of the world worketh death....

Book excerpt: A Transforming Knowledge of the Living God The timeless appeal of this classic book, written by a preacher with a worldwide ministry during the first half of the twentieth century, demonstrates the deep hunger for a saving knowledge of God present in each generation. Arthur Pink sought to give readers not just a theoretical knowledge of God but pointed them toward a personal relationship of yielding to him and living according to his biblical precepts. Pink's book explores attributes such as God's decrees, foreknowledge, sovereignty, holiness, grace, and mercy, among many others, all packaged in a style especially useful for pastors, teachers, and Bible students. Our God who is above all names cannot be found through human searching alone, Pink teaches, but can be known only as he is revealed by the Holy Spirit through his living Word.

Book excerpt: Discover how to live a spiritual life instead of a soulish life. We are tripartite beings, having body, soul, and spirit. The spirit is conscious of God; the soul, of self; and the body, of the things of this world. In this relatable treatise, backed by her own experience, author Juliet Tennison describes how to avoid war within ourselves as she examines the spirit, soul, and body and unpacks scriptural truths about spiritual versus carnal living. God created us for love and to have an intimate relationship with Him. We will never understand who we are until we see ourselves as God sees us. In the Garden of Eden, man had perfect relationship with God, but after the Fall, sin separated man from Him. Adam and Eve hid from God because the soul had become self-conscious instead of God-conscious, and they could no longer enjoy walking in fellowship with a Holy God. We were created to love God and to love others, but our soul keeps us from ever achieving this purpose. We must lose our soul to love and we must seek God, who is love. God created us to live a supernatural life by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our brain, our will, and our emotions, which make up our soul, are natural. The body we walk in is natural. The soul and the spirit are so close to one another that the two require the word of God to divide them, to separate them from each other: “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).So many of us practice religion without relationship. This is “churchianity”—we attend church but have no relationship with Jesus Christ. We pray for forgiveness without repenting our sins. Repentance means to stop doing our will and to start doing God’s Will. We struggle in our walk with God because we fail to differentiate between our soul and our spirit; we substitute the thoughts or emotions of the soul for the works of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit can only take residence in our spirit. It is in our spirit that we worship, fellowship and stay connected to God for “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:24.The knowledge of God is not some generic idea that He exists “up there.” It involves an intimate acquaintance with His character and actions. God’s love is manifested in His Son Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. He has placed His Spirit within His adopted children, giving us a heart to love Him, a mind to know Him, and a will to obey Him. The salvation which comes from God means being completely delivered from our self and being placed into perfect union with Him by the Power of the Holy Spirit. As fallen humans, we need a saviour to save us from our own wicked soul. Salvation is only understood in our spirit and only when the spirit is made alive by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The soul cannot comprehend this, because it is filled with its own pride; neither can the body, which is world-conscious and only understands the worldly things. Knowing these things, we learn to live a victorious spiritual life as the Holy Spirit lives in our spirit, and we crucify the detrimental desires of the soul and body.
