Book excerpt: A flawed heroine. A twisted magical college. Three sexy teachers.I didn't know magic existed?until I found my birth family after a life in foster care. They tell me there are rules, but I don't believe them. Naturally, I break one of those precious rules on the night of a full moon, and am forced to enroll at Academy Obscura. But I don't fit in. After all, I'm not a witch, vampire, fae, werewolf, or shifter. Am I?Worse, the penalty for messing up at the Academy? Death. My only chance of survival lies in the hands of three frustratingly hot teachers. Jaxon, a powerful but untrustworthy witch. Liam, a fae who avoids my flirtations. And Angel, the alpha werewolf who enthusiastically tears apart my enemies, but openly broods when I'm around.I am drawn to all of them. But, how can one woman have three men?

Book Synopsis Their Own Best Creations by : Annie Berke
Download or read book Their Own Best Creations written by Annie Berke and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich account that combines media-industry history and cultural studies, Their Own Best Creations looks at women writers' contributions to some of the most popular genres of postwar TV: comedy-variety, family sitcom, daytime soap, and suspense anthology. During the 1950s, when the commercial medium of television was still being defined, women writers navigated pressures at work, constructed public personas that reconciled traditional and progressive femininity, and asserted that a woman's point of view was essential to television as an art form. The shows they authored allegorize these professional and personal pressures and articulate a nascent second-wave feminist consciousness. Annie Berke brings to light the long-forgotten and under-studied stories of these women writers and crucially places them in the historical and contemporary record.

Book Synopsis COOKERY AND DINING IN IMPERIAL ROME Apicius by : Joseph Dommers Vehling

This book was released on 2020-11-07 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apicius is a collection of Roman cookery recipes, thought to have been compiled in the 1st century AD and written in a language in many ways closer to Vulgar than to Classical Latin; later recipes using Vulgar Latin (such as ficatum, bullire) were added to earlier recipes using Classical Latin (such as iecur, fervere). Based on textual analysis, the food scholar Bruno Laurioux believes that the surviving version only dates from the fifth century (that is, the end of the Roman Empire): "The history of De Re Coquinaria indeed belongs then to the Middle Ages".The name "Apicius" is taken from the habits of an early bearer of the name, Marcus Gavius Apicius, a Roman gourmet who lived sometime in the 1st century AD during the reign of Tiberius. He is sometimes erroneously asserted to be the author of the book pseudepigraphically attributed to him.Apicius is a text to be used in the kitchen. In the earliest printed editions, it was usually called De re coquinaria (On the Subject of Cooking), and attributed to an otherwise unknown Caelius Apicius, an invention based on the fact that one of the two manuscripts is headed with the words "API CAE" or rather because a few recipes are attributed to Apicius in the text: Patinam Apicianam sic facies (IV, 14) Ofellas Apicianas (VII, 2). It is also known as De re culinaria.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most detailed and comprehensive treatise on swordsmanship ever written, Gerard Thibault's Academy of the Sword offers an extraordinary glimpse into a forgotten landscape of ideas, in which Pythagorean sacred geometry illuminated the lethal realities of rapier combat to create one of the Western world's only thoroughly documented esoteric martial arts. Translated by the widely respected occultist and scholar John Michael Greer, this stunningly illustrated and precisely detailed manual of Renaissance swordsmanship is a triumphant document of Renaissance culture-as well as a practical manual of a martial art that can still be studied and practiced today.
