Book Synopsis Spanish for Gay Men (Spanish That Was Never Taught in the Classroom!) by : Jonathan L. Charles
Download or read book Spanish for Gay Men (Spanish That Was Never Taught in the Classroom!) written by Jonathan L. Charles and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After thirty plus years teaching high school and college Spanish, there are many things that have not been taught at those levels. Remember how frustrating it was wondering how to say words and phrases about sex, and especially gay sex? So, I decided to compile this book just for you so, you do not have to wonder any more! This book will include just about everything that you have ever wanted to know and much, much more! A great percent of the book was written on my travels to the many Spanish speaking countries and through interviews with countless native speakers. Gay, of course! I have been to Spain four times spending weeks upon weeks in most all of the provinces. Over the past 35 years my travels to Latin America have been more extensive, living and studying in Mexico for over a year with over 40 return trips to most of the entire country exploring the enriching culture of our neighbors to the southern boarder. Within the past 15 years, I have explored the colorful, cultural riches of Guatemala spending months with the gualtemaltecos. I have also had the pleasure of three fantastic, magical adventures to Peru, which were truly spiritual experiences that enlightened and enriched me greatly. Other Spanish speaking countries that I have traveled and explored are Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panama, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay and yes, Argentina. I wish to thank many friends and colleagues for their encouragement to write this book. They have read my work and have given me many helpful suggestions to finalize the process.

Book Synopsis Social Connections and Your Health by : Alfred Anduze
Download or read book Social Connections and Your Health written by Alfred Anduze and published by Yorkshire Publishing. This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Social Connections and Your Health is a contemporary look at the origins, evolution, history, and science of human social life. In the text we look at where this behavior came from, where it is at present and where it maybe going. The biochemistry of socializing and the formation and management of social connections involving the presence and activity of feel-good hormones and feel-bad hormones vying for expression and based on genetics, environment, and oxidative stress are presented in terms of positive and negative effects. Pro-Social and antisocial behavior are discussed with emphasis on the influence of each on human interactions as well as on the mental and physical health of individuals and groups, with respect to their association with anxiety, depression, heart disease, dementias, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. Friendships and hostilities, cooperation and conflicts are closely linked to longevity and quality of life. We see how anti-social behavior manifests itself in lack of basic manners, rudeness, snobbery, selfishness, us vs them exclusions and the concept of "others" and its resultant dysfunctional societies. Social experiences compare the effects of friendliness and indifference in shaping the character of a people within counties and regions. Protocols for building and improving social skills among the various age groups are suggested and provided. The effects of social distancing and isolation in the present Covid pandemic are examined and possible solutions to minimize the damages to mental and physical health are provided. Emphasis is placed throughout on the importance of socializing across diverse lines and the quality and quantity of social behavior and its close connections with good health.
Book Synopsis Entre Guadalupe y Malinche by : Inés Hernández-Ávila
Download or read book Entre Guadalupe y Malinche written by Inés Hernández-Ávila and published by University of Texas Press. This book was released on 2016-02-23 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mexican and Mexican American women have written about Texas and their lives in the state since colonial times. Edited by fellow Tejanas Inés Hernández-Ávila and Norma Elia Cantú, Entre Guadalupe y Malinche gathers, for the first time, a representative body of work about the lives and experiences of women who identify as Tejanas in both the literary and visual arts. The writings of more than fifty authors and the artwork of eight artists manifest the nuanced complexity of what it means to be Tejana and how this identity offers alternative perspectives to contemporary notions of Chicana identity, community, and culture. Considering Texas-Mexican women and their identity formations, subjectivities, and location on the longest border between Mexico and any of the southwestern states acknowledges the profound influence that land and history have on a people and a community, and how Tejana creative traditions have been shaped by historical, geographical, cultural, linguistic, social, and political forces. This representation of Tejana arts and letters brings together the work of rising stars along with well-known figures such as writers Gloria Anzaldúa, Emma Pérez, Alicia Gaspar de Alba, Carmen Tafolla, and Pat Mora, and artists such as Carmen Lomas Garza, Kathy Vargas, Santa Barraza, and more. The collection attests to the rooted presence of the original indigenous peoples of the land now known as Tejas, as well as a strong Chicana/Mexicana feminism that has its precursors in Tejana history itself.
