If this is true, the world may never have heard of Abraham Lincoln. In his fascinating book, Abraham Enloe of Western North Carolina: The Natural father of Abraham Lincoln, Don Norris contends that the illiterate Tom Lincoln, long thought to be Abe's dad, could never have sired the sixteenth president of the United States. The author goes on to proffer that the science of eugenics and heredity now demand for President Lincoln a far superior ancestry to the 'sub-normal' Thomas Lincoln."--Back cover

Book excerpt: Accepted history tells us that the sixteenth President of the United States was born to Thomas Lincoln and his bride, Nancy Hanks, in Hardin county, Kentucky three years after their marriage. To the contrary, the author of this fascinating book demonstrates, with an impressive collection of eyewitness testimonies and collaborating evidence, that the man known to the world as Abraham Lincoln was actually the offspring of an illicit relationship between Nancy Hanks and a married man named Abraham Enloe, in whose western North Carolina home she worked as a servant in the early years of the Nineteenth Century. Included in these pages are several photographs of various members of the Enloe family which bear such a striking resemblance to Lincoln that even his most ardent admirers in the last century were forced to admit to the truth of the accounts of his suppressed parentage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the more than 140 years since his death, Abraham Lincoln has become America's most revered president. The mythmaking about this self-made man began early, some of it starting during his campaign for the presidency in 1860. As an American icon, Lincoln has been the subject of speculation and inquiry as authors and researchers have examined every aspect—personal and professional—of the president's life. In Lincoln Legends, noted historian and Lincoln expert Edward Steers Jr. carefully scrutinizes some of the most notorious tall tales and distorted ideas about America's sixteenth president. These inaccuracies and speculations about Lincoln's personal and professional life abound. Did he write his greatest speech on the back of an envelope on the way to Gettysburg? Did Lincoln appear before a congressional committee to defend his wife against charges of treason? Was he an illegitimate child? Did Lincoln have romantic encounters with women other than his wife? Did he have love affairs with men? What really happened in the weeks leading up to April 14, 1865, and in the aftermath of Lincoln's tragic assassination? Lincoln Legends evaluates the evidence on all sides of the many heated debates about the Great Emancipator. Not only does Steers weigh the merits of all relevant arguments and interpretations, but he also traces the often fascinating evolution of flawed theories about Lincoln and uncovers the motivations of the individuals—occasionally sincere but more often cynical, self-serving, and nefarious—who are responsible for their dispersal. Based on extensive primary research, the conclusions in Lincoln Legends will settle many of the enduring questions and persistent myths about Lincoln's life once and for all. Steers leaves us with a clearer image of Abraham Lincoln as a man, as an exceptionally effective president, and as a deserving recipient of the nation's admiration.

Book excerpt: Nearly all the information published previously has omitted the beginning of President Lincoln. Actually, he was the Fourth president born in North Carolina. His birth was never publicized, due to conditions listed below. My new book, titled "NANCY HANKS, SINGLE MOTHER OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN," gives the following details and are guaranteed to be correct. First of all, there were at least sixteen Abraham Lincolns born within that period. They were all registered at birth, except one. President Abraham Lincoln was never registered at birth, due to pressure in the family by Mrs. Enloe, wife of little Abraham''s actual father, Abraham Enloe The conditions were as follows. Abraham Enloe was a well-to-do and influencial Scottish trader and political figure in South Carolina and Western North Carolina. After fmoving from South Carolina into North Carolina, he settled near Bostic and Forest City, NC. Puzzle creek was one bondary of this farm. A monument at the corner of this farm continues to be there today. Abraham Enloe took Nancy Hanks into their family when she was six years of age, to assist Mrs. Enloe in the housework and raising the family. This was quite common during those days. This lasted many years. When Nancy was an adult in her twenties, Mrs. Enloe took an extended horse drawy vacation and trip to visit old friends and acquaintences. This trip lasted several weeks into months. By that time Nancy had grown up, and was a beautiful lady. A "cornfield romance" developed between Mr. Enloe and Nancy during this absence. The "cornfield romance" resulted in Nancy becoming pregnant with Abraham Enloe. While Mrs. Enloe was on her trip, Nancy began to show she was pregnant. When Mrs. Enloereturned home from South Carolina, Nancy was showing she was pregnant. Mrs. Enloe blew her stack, and ordered her husband to get rid of Nancy immediately and without delay. He did just that. Mr. Enloe moved Nancy to a friend in Belmont, NC, temporarily. He then made arrangements with the buyer of his previous farm on Puzzle Creek to take care of Nancy until the baby was born. Nancy was then moved to the Puzzle Creek farm, awaiting the birth of the baby. She joined the church there while awaiting the baby. Abraham was delivered by a black mid-wife, who delivered all the babies within this local area. There was no Doctor present nor available for this delivery. Tom Lincoln had been employed by Abraham Enloe as a wagon driver to bring merchandise from Savannah and Charleston for two to three years. Tom agreed to take Nancy and baby Abraham out of North Carolina when the baby was born. Shortly after the birth, this took place. They went to the Tri-City area of Tenn-NC-VA, but Tom could not find any affordable land he could claim. After two years of being together, Tom and Nancy were married by a country minister. This marriage was registered with NO mention of baby Abraham, who was now two years of age. Abraham Enloe sent Tom a few hundred dollars to buy their first farm in Indiana. This and all the later history of the settling in Indiana is probably correct. I believe this book, "NANCY HANKS, SINGLE MOTHER OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN," should be included in all historic records of North Carolina because it is completely correct and the truth.

Book excerpt: A groundbreaking look at marriage, one of the most basic and universal of all human institutions, which reveals the emotional, physical, economic, and sexual benefits that marriage brings to individuals and society as a whole. The Case for Marriage is a critically important intervention in the national debate about the future of family. Based on the authoritative research of family sociologist Linda J. Waite, journalist Maggie Gallagher, and a number of other scholars, this book’s findings dramatically contradict the anti-marriage myths that have become the common sense of most Americans. Today a broad consensus holds that marriage is a bad deal for women, that divorce is better for children when parents are unhappy, and that marriage is essentially a private choice, not a public institution. Waite and Gallagher flatly contradict these assumptions, arguing instead that by a broad range of indices, marriage is actually better for you than being single or divorced– physically, materially, and spiritually. They contend that married people live longer, have better health, earn more money, accumulate more wealth, feel more fulfillment in their lives, enjoy more satisfying sexual relationships, and have happier and more successful children than those who remain single, cohabit, or get divorced. The Case for Marriage combines clearheaded analysis, penetrating cultural criticism, and practical advice for strengthening the institution of marriage, and provides clear, essential guidelines for reestablishing marriage as the foundation for a healthy and happy society. “A compelling defense of a sacred union. The Case for Marriage is well written and well argued, empirically rigorous and learned, practical and commonsensical.” -- William J. Bennett, author of The Book of Virtues “Makes the absolutely critical point that marriage has been misrepresented and misunderstood.” -- The Wall Street Journal www.broadwaybooks.com
