Download or read book Paul Rand written by Eugenia Bell and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Best-known for his corporate brand logos and art direction, Paul Rand (1914–1986) transformed commercial art from craft to profession, introduced European design standards to American commercial art, influenced the look of advertising and book design, and altered the ways in which major corporations including IBM, UPS, and Westinghouse did business. His adherence to a strict design form in his work for corporate clients was balanced by a playful side , captured in this spirited collection of literal (and figural) back-of-the-envelope sketches, doodles, notes, and imaginative sparks that later found their full form in his children's books, logos, and personal work.

Download or read book Queer Wars written by Dennis Altman and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The claim that 'LGBT rights are human rights' encounters fierce opposition in many parts of the world, as governments and religious leaders have used resistance to 'LGBT rights' to cast themselves as defenders of traditional values against neo-colonial interference and western decadence. Queer Wars explores the growing international polarization over sexual rights, and the creative responses from social movements and activists, some of whom face murder, imprisonment or rape because of their perceived sexuality or gender expression. This book asks why sexuality and gender identity have become so vexed an issue between and within nations, and how we can best advocate for change.
Book Synopsis Six Chapters in Design by : Philip B. Meggs
Download or read book Six Chapters in Design written by Philip B. Meggs and published by Chronicle Books. This book was released on 1997-10-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stylish and concise, this volume presents the work of six venerable names in modern design history. Featuring more than three hundred examples of their best work, yet still eminently portable, Six Chapters in Design is a charming model of economy. Each chapter begins with an essay by a fellow designer, or poet, or, in the case of Saul Bass, director Martin Scorsese, and closes with a biographical profile. Esteemed by designers around the world, these are the artists who created the identities of Warner, AT&T, IBM, ABC, UPS, and Westinghouse; film titles for The Shining and Cape Fear; posters; advertisements; and memorable images of every sort. Their work, nearly omnipresent in everyday life, has influenced an entire culture. This dynamic compendium is a smart resource for designers and artists working in any medium.

Book Synopsis The Role of National Development Banks in Catalyzing International Climate Finance by : Lucila Serra
Download or read book The Role of National Development Banks in Catalyzing International Climate Finance written by Lucila Serra and published by Inter-American Development Bank. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant investments are needed to support the global transition to a low-carbon, climate resilient future. Current finance flows fall short of global financing needs, and massive scaling up is needed to unlock additional financial resources and foster a sustainable investment pathway. Overcoming barriers to private sector investments is critical, and international climate finance can play a catalytic role in this regard. National development banks (NDBs) have a unique role in this context, both complementing and catalyzing private sector players. This publication discusses the unique role that NDBs could play in scaling up private financing for climate change mitigation projects through the intermediation of international and national public climate finance in their respective local credit markets and the conditions that would be needed for them to be most effective. It draws from experiences in international climate finance and best practices, processes, and products of NDBs within the Latin American and Caribbean region.
