Book excerpt: An erotic paranormal romance about the tenderness of beasts... Alice is twenty-four, far old enough to know that a change of scenery can't repair the cracks in a relationship long strained. Yet when her lover insists on a trip to a remote cabin to get away and recharge, Alice agrees and discovers that among the beasts of the forest, there is one that shouldn't exist and yet does: a wolf that changes into a man and a man who changes into a wolf. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ** A Christian Classic ** ** Active Table of Contents ** This book comes complete with a Touch-or-Click Table of Contents, divided by each section. The Lais of Marie de France are a series of twelve short narrative Breton lais by the poet Marie de France. They are written in the Anglo-Norman and were probably composed in the late 12th century. The short, narrative poems generally focus on glorifying the concept of courtly love through the adventures of their main characters. Despite her stature in Anglo-Norman literature and medieval French literature generally, little is known of Marie herself, though it is thought that she was born in France and wrote in England. Marie de France's lais, told in octosyllabic, or eight syllable verse, are notable for their celebration of love, individuality of character, and vividness of description – hallmarks of the emerging literature of the times. Five different manuscripts contain one or more of the lais, but only one, Harley 978, a thirteenth century manuscript housed in the British Library, preserves all twelve. It has been suggested that if the author had indeed arranged the Lais as presented in Harley 978, that she may have chosen this overall structure to contrast the positive and negative actions that can result from love. In this manuscript, the odd lais — "Guigemar," "Le Fresne," etc. — praise the characters who express love for other people. By comparison, the even lais, such as "Equitan," "Bisclavret" and so on, warn how love that is limited to oneself can lead to misfortune. The Harley 978 manuscript also includes a 56-line prologue in which Marie describes the impetus for her composition of the lais. In the prologue, Marie writes that she was inspired by the example of the ancient Greeks and Romans to create something that would be both entertaining and morally instructive. She also states her desire to preserve for posterity the tales that she has heard. Two of Marie's lais – "Lanval," a very popular work that was adapted several times over the years (including the Middle English Sir Launfal), and "Chevrefoil" ("The Honeysuckle"), a short composition about Tristan and Iseult – mention King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Marie's lais were precursors to later works on the subject, and Marie was probably a contemporary of Chrétien de Troyes, another writer of Arthurian tales. You can buy other wonderful religious books from Wyatt North Publishing! Enjoy.

Book excerpt: Marie de France (fl. late twelfth century) is the earliest known French woman poet and her lais - stories in verse based on Breton tales of chivalry and romance - are among the finest of the genre. Recounting the trials and tribulations of lovers, the lais inhabit a powerfully realized world where very real human protagonists act out their lives against fairy-tale elements of magical beings, potions and beasts. De France takes a subtle and complex view of courtly love, whether telling the story of the knight who betrays his fairy mistress or describing the noblewoman who embroiders her sad tale on the shroud for a nightingale killed by a jealous and suspicious husband.

Book excerpt: An erotically charged, addictive thriller from the future queen of suspense. Living in Toronto for a year, Elena is leading the normal life she has always dreamed of, including a stable job as a journalist and a nice apartment shared with her boyfriend. As the lone female werewolf in existence, only her secret midnight prowls and her occasional inhuman cravings set her apart. Just one year ago, life was very different. Adopted by the Pack when bitten, Elena had spent years struggling with her resentment at having her life stolen away. Torn between two worlds, and overwhelmed by the new passions coursing through her body, her only option for control was to deny her awakening needs and escape. But now the Pack has called Elena home to help them fight an alliance of renegade werewolves who are bent on exposing and annihilating the Pack. And although Elena is obliged to rejoin her "family," she vows not to be swept up in Pack life again, no matter how natural it might feel. She has made her choice. Trouble is, she's increasingly uncertain if it's the right one. An erotically charged thriller, Bitten will awaken the voracious appetite of every reader, as the age-old battle between man and beast, between human and inhuman forces, comes to a head in one small town and within one woman's body.

I kind of got a Twilight vibe off of this story except better writing and characters that you can relate to. And OMG the cringe-worthy moments!! Bree in Issy's closet and Bree's bedroom with Aiden!! I was embarrassed reading those parts, but they were too awesome not to continue!" - Taiyewo from Goodreads "It wasn't cheesey like a lot of YA paranormal books are these days where everything out of the male leads mouth is like sweet poetry and he has the body of a god. The dialogue was appropriate and my favorite part was the teenagers actually acted like teenagers sweet but flawed and still trying to figure themselves out while doing normal teenage things like getting there first car and going to the mall." - Candace from Goodreads Categories: paranormal, werewolves, young adult werewolf, young adult werewolf romance, young adult werewolf books, teen boy books, young adult humor, teen love stories, teen supernatural romance, and teen high school romance.

Book excerpt: After Tanya's father dies in 16th century England, Tanya must find a way to obtain money for her and her mother. Unfortunately, everyone in her town is hungry, and there is not enough charity to feed her family. Tanya is forced to enter a relationship with Sir William, a cruel but wealthy man. Years later, her mother becomes betrothed to another, and Tanya realizes that this is the chance she has been waiting for. The chance to be free. Unfortunately, she does not expect Sir William's vow, a vow that if she will not be his, then he will kill her. Tanya flees the town and goes far away. In a distant village, she finds a paper in a bar asking for a new servant at a wealthy estate. Overjoyed, she heads to the estate, but halfway there she is bitten by a rabid wolf. Though she kills the wolf before it devours her, her leg is covered in blood and she is overcome with pain. Luckily, a strange, attractive man comes to her rescue. It is the owner of the estate, Leon. As he houses Tanya at his estate and the young woman's bond with Leon becomes more than friendship, Tanya comes to realize that he is more than a man. He is someone far more dangerous. Excerpt: Leon lay in his bed, fighting the urges which erupted in his being. He could picture Tanya in bed next to him in naught but a sheer white nightgown, her flowing hair draped around her like a veil. This was exactly why it was a bad idea to have a woman in his estate with him. Yes, he oftentimes felt the hand of devilish arousal at night, but it was only an empty dream. As he gripped the bed, he continued to imagine Tanya next to him. The fantasy became so intense he could swear he could smell her in the room with him. There was something erotic about the goddess, Tanya.

Book excerpt: The mythical werewolf is known for its sudden transformation under the full moon, but the creature also underwent a narrative evolution through the centuries, from bloodthirsty creature to hero. Beginning with The Epic of Gilgamesh, Ovid’s Metamorphoses, and an account in Petronius’ Satyricon, the book analyzes the context that created the traditional image of the werewolf as a savage beast. The Catholic Church’s response to the popular belief in werewolves and medieval literature’s sympathetic depiction of the werewolf as victim are presented to support the idea of the werewolf as a complex and varied cultural symbol. Neither is finding a naked—and beautiful—woman alone in the park. Had the wolf been an omen of what was yet to come? Because since meeting Athena, Derek’s life’s been upended. Chased by thugs and with a ransom on her head, Athena isn’t divulging why she’s a wanted woman. Derek helps her anyway since he’s a gentleman and she keeps his curiosity—and other things—piqued. Besides, he’ll be damned if some greedy doctor is going to kidnap and experiment on innocent people in his own backyard. But he can’t help but notice Athena’s great sense of smell, or her proclivity for chasing rabbits, or the way she disappears every full moon… Turns out his Athena’s got a hairy secret. A howling whopper of one. Guess he’d better stock up on flea collars and kibble because My Girlfriend is a Werewolf.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout history, from at least as far back as the Epic of Gilgamesh, mankind has shown a fascination with physical transformation--especially that of humans into animals. Tales of such transformations appear in every culture across the course of history. They have been featured in the Western world in the work of such authors as Ovid, Petronius, Marie de France, Saint Augustine, Jack Williamson, Charles de Lint, Charaline Harris, Terry Pratchett, and J. K. Rowling. This book approaches werewolves as representations of a proposed shape-shifter archetype, examining, with reference to earlier sources, how and why the archetype has been employed in modern literature. Although the archetype is in a state of flux by its very definition, many common threads are linked throughout the literary landscape even as modern authors add, modify, and reinvent characteristics and meanings. This is especially true in the work of such authors examined in this book, many of whom have struck a chord with a wide range of readers and non-readers around the world. They seem to have tapped into something that affects their audiences on a subconscious level.
