Book excerpt: A water ride like you've never experienced before, featuring the cutest drop of water in all of precipitation. Meet Drop. She's water! And she's seen a thing or two. Yep, even dinosaurs; she's four and a half billion years old, after all. Everywhere Drop flows--and she flows everywhere--she keeps things moving, making life on earth possible, and having a great time doing it. (Have you ever plummeted from a rain cloud? Or took a thousand-year nap in a glacier? Drop knows how to live right.) With delightful panache and a steady stream of funny one-liners, Drop takes readers on an adventure through the water cycle and beyond. Filled with irresistible artwork, funny asides, and a steady sprinkle of kid-enticing facts, Drop is the story about water you never knew you were thirsting for. Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated children's ebook takes a close look at the lifecycle of water, including how it supports all life forms, how humans harness its power, and why we need to conserve it. Water is essential for life. In fact, about 60 percent of an adult human is made up of water! We drink it, bathe in it, and thousands of creatures live in it. Yet, our planet is running desperately low on water, with less than one percent of the water on Earth available to fuel and feed the current population of 7.5 billion people. So dive into the wonderful world of water and find out how you can save this life-giving substance. From raindrops falling from the sky, to rushing rivers and vast oceans full of animals and plants, water is everywhere. Discover how it affects Earth's weather, through rainstorms, snow flurries, and cyclones, and gives life to animals, plants, and humans. Learn how it is used in growing food and in making electricity, as well as how water travels into our homes at the turn of a tap. See the process water goes through when you drink it and how important keeping hydrated is for our health. With stunning photos and illustrations that showcase the beauty and power of water in nature, the cycle of water has never been so exciting. In the face of our planet's climate crisis, saving water is more crucial than ever.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a comprehensive presentation of our present understanding of the Earth's Hydrological cycle and the problems, consequences and impacts that go with this topic. Water is a central component in the Earth's system. It is indispensable for life on Earth in its present form and influences virtually every aspect of our planet's life support system. On relatively short time scales, atmospheric water vapor interacts with the atmospheric circulation and is crucial in forming the Earth's climate zones. Water vapor is the most powerful of the greenhouse gases and serves to enhance the tropospheric temperature. The dominant part of available water on Earth resides in the oceans. Parts are locked up in the land ice on Greenland and Antarctica and a smaller part is estimated to exist as groundwater. If all the ice over the land and all the glaciers were to melt, the sea level would rise by some 80 m. In comparison, the total amount of water vapor in the atmosphere is small; it amounts to ~ 25 kg/m2, or the equivalent of 25 mm water for each column of air. Yet atmospheric water vapor is crucial for the Earth’s energy balance. The book gives an up to date presentation of the present knowledge. Where does that journey begin? High in the sky, rain clouds are parting. Water trickles and flows down the mountain, collecting in an upland bog, seeping through a beaver’s dam, rushing over rocks, passing many plants and animals along its winding way—each dependent on water and the different environments it shapes to live. Author and illustrator Gordon Morrison has captured a single moment in time, revealing the course and influence of water, and inviting readers to pause and consider the world around them in this beautiful and lyrical appreciation of nature and the resource that makes it all possible—a drop of water.
