Book Synopsis They All Love Jack by : Bruce Robinson
Download or read book They All Love Jack written by Bruce Robinson and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 1037 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a hundred years, the mystery of Jack the Ripper has been a source of unparalleled fascination and horror, spawning an army of obsessive theorists and endless volumes purporting to finally reveal the identity of the brutal murderer who terrorized Victorian England. But what if there was never really any mystery at all? What if the Ripper was always hiding in plain sight, deliberately leaving a trail of clues to his identity for anyone who cared to look, while cynically mocking those who were supposedly attempting to bring him to justice? In They All Love Jack, the award-winning film director and screenwriter Bruce Robinson exposes the cover-up that enabled one of history's most notorious serial killers to remain at large. More than twelve years in the writing, this is no mere radical reinterpretation of the Jack the Ripper legend and an enthralling hunt for the killer. A literary high-wire act reminiscent of Tom Wolfe or Hunter S. Thompson, it is an expressionistic journey through the cesspools of late-Victorian society, a phantasmagoria of highly placed villains, hypocrites, and institutionalized corruption. Polemic forensic investigation and panoramic portrait of an age, underpinned by deep scholarship and delivered in Robinson's inimitably vivid and scabrous prose, They All Love Jack is an absolutely riveting and unique book, demolishing the theories of generations of self-appointed experts—the so-called Ripperologists—to make clear, at last, who really did it; and, more important, how he managed to get away with it for so long.

Book excerpt: Insiders call it the Craft. Discover the “thoroughly entertaining” (Wall Street Journal) true story of one of the most influential and misunderstood secret brotherhoods in modern society. Founded in London in 1717 as a way of binding men in fellowship, Freemasonry proved so addictive that within two decades it had spread across the globe. Masonic influence became pervasive. Under George Washington, the Craft became a creed for the new American nation. Masonic networks held the British empire together. Under Napoleon, the Craft became a tool of authoritarianism and then a cover for revolutionary conspiracy. Both the Mormon Church and the Sicilian mafia owe their origins to Freemasonry. Yet the Masons were as feared as they were influential. In the eyes of the Catholic Church, Freemasonry has always been a den of devil-worshippers. For Hitler, Mussolini and Franco, the Lodges spread the diseases of pacifism, socialism and Jewish influence, so had to be crushed. Freemasonry's story yokes together Winston Churchill and Walt Disney; Wolfgang Mozart and Shaquille O'Neal; Benjamin Franklin and Buzz Aldrin; Rudyard Kipling and 'Buffalo Bill' Cody; Duke Ellington and the Duke of Wellington. John Dickie's The Craft is an enthralling exploration of a the world's most famous and misunderstood secret brotherhood, a movement that not only helped to forge modern society, but has substantial contemporary influence, with 400,000 members in Britain, over a million in the USA, and around six million across the world.
Book Synopsis Brothers of the Secret Lodge by : William A. Hinson
Download or read book Brothers of the Secret Lodge written by William A. Hinson and published by . This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freemasons claim that Masonry is open to any one of any faith and that it is a brotherhood to help other Masons. This is used as a trap to entice new victims into their secret order. All Freemasons take a deadly oath for each degree up to the 33rd degree. They swear allegiance to Masonry above God and country and under pain of death, and swear never to reveal the secrets of Freemasonry - not even to their wives. Therefore no matter what a Mason claims about their supposed good works or good intentions, they cannot be believed. Their real purpose is to undermine the teachings of Christianity. They are the true masters of deceit. Specifically anti-Christian, Masonry is working for a secular-humanist new world order - a Masonic Republic. At Catholic University, in Washington, D.C., on June 30, 1990, in a speech to the World Apostolate of Fatima, Father Robert J. Bradley, S.J., stated, "Masonry is Secular Humanism incarnate. Masonry is also Satanism incarnate." The official position of American Freemasonry has been outlined in their publication The New Age. The September 1950 issue describes "God's Plan in America" (according to the distorted view of Masonry) and asserts that Masonry is God's plan for America and that Christianity is in opposition to this plan of God. Masons freely invoke the name of "God" but their god is not the God of the Bible. Even some Catholics condemn this occult society, in 1829, Pope Pius VIII warned Catholics concerning Masonry, "Their law is untruth; their God is the devil; and their cult is turpitude." In other reports, they describe some of the past Masonic successes in starting wars, spawning revolutions, causing assassinations and overthrowing organizations and even governments. Their diabolical activities in America and their plans "for a new world Masonic Order" will be revealed; and their promotion of the deadly heresy of indifferentism (which maintains that all religions are of equal value) will be discussed. As a Mason works his way up through the 33 degrees of the Scottish Rite, he is promised that he will attain the secret knowledge of the "ancients" - secrets available only to the illuminated or Gnostic adepts. Masonry is a pagan religion which adopts various religious symbols to deceive the unwary, as in the case of the letter "G" which is often used within the two other Masonic symbols, the square and the compass. Many uninformed Christians assume that this "G" stands for the Trinitarian God, when it actually represents the Masonic gnosis or generation. The Ancient Plan of Secret Societies (Huntington House 1990) asserts, "Though few Masons know it, the god of Masonry is Lucifer. What's the difference between (worship of) Lucifer and Satan? Luciferians think they are doing good." This is the "ultimate" secret of Masonry and of similar secret quasi-Masonic societies - the worship of Lucifer. William T. Still writes that "Masons believe Lucifer never fell to earth; that Lucifer is really God, and has been since the dawn of creation." Adonay is their blasphemous term for the one true God of Christendom, whom Luciferians denounce as the god of evil. Masonry's god is "the devil." Lower degree Freemasons are not told of this secret and higher degree Freemasons will never admit it for the oaths forbid them to divulge Masonic secrets. Masons take blood oaths in which they swear undivided primary allegiance to Masonry - over Christ, over country, and over their wives and family under pain of a violent death. A third Masonic evil is their promotion of the idea that all religions are equal. This is the heresy of Indifferentism, that would equate Christianity with Hinduism, with Buddhism, with aboriginal pantheism. However their unconstrained hatred of Christianity belies this feigned equality. Unfortunately, the ethnic and religious diversity in America subtly indoctrinates the unsuspecting Christians.
Book Synopsis Freemasonry and the Press in the Twentieth Century by : Paul Calderwood
Download or read book Freemasonry and the Press in the Twentieth Century written by Paul Calderwood and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-15 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By the end of the twentieth century, Freemasonry had acquired an unsavoury reputation as a secretive network of wealthy men looking out for each others’ interests. The popular view is of an organisation that, if not actually corrupt, is certainly viewed with deep mistrust by the press and wider society. Yet, as this book makes clear, this view contrasts sharply with the situation at the beginning of the century when the public’s perception of Freemasonry in Britain was much more benevolent, with numerous establishment figures (including monarchs, government ministers, archbishops and civic worthies) enthusiastically recommending Freemasonry as the key to model citizenship. Focusing particularly on the role of the press, this book investigates the transformation of the image of Freemasonry in Britain from respectability to suspicion. It describes how the media projected a positive message of the organisation for almost forty years, based on a mass of news emanating from the organisation itself, before a change in public regard occurred during the later twentieth-century. This change in the public mood, the book argues, was due primarily to Masonic withdrawal from the public sphere and a disengagement with the press. Through an examination of the subject of Freemasonry and the British press, a number of related social trends are addressed, including the decline of deference, the erosion of privacy, greater competition in the media, the emergence of more aggressive and investigative journalism, the consequences of media isolation and the rise of professional Public Relations. The book also illuminates the organisation’s collisions with nationalism, communism, and state welfare provision. As such, the study is illuminating not only for students of Freemasonry, but those with an interest in the wider social history of modern Britain.
Book Synopsis Black Freemasonry by : Cécile Révauger
Download or read book Black Freemasonry written by Cécile Révauger and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of black Freemasonry from Boston and Philadelphia in the late 1700s through the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement • Examines the letters of Prince Hall, legendary founder of the first black lodge • Reveals how many of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century were also Masons, including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Nat King Cole • Explores the origins of the Civil Rights Movement within black Freemasonry and the roles played by Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois When the first Masonic lodges opened in Paris in the early 18th century their membership included traders, merchants, musketeers, clergymen, and women--both white and black. This was not the case in the United States where black Freemasons were not eligible for membership in existing lodges. For this reason the first official charter for an exclusively black lodge--the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Massachusetts--was granted by the Grand Lodge of England rather than any American chapter. Through privileged access to archives kept by Grand Lodges, Masonic libraries, and museums in both the United States and Europe, respected Freemasonry historian Cécile Révauger traces the history of black Freemasonry from Boston and Philadelphia in the late 1700s through the Abolition Movement and the Civil War to the genesis of the Civil Rights Movement in the early 1900s up through the 1960s. She opens with a look at Prince Hall, legendary founder and the chosen namesake when black American lodges changed from “African Lodges” to “Prince Hall Lodges” in the early 1800s. She reveals how the Masonic principles of mutual aid and charity were more heavily emphasized in the black lodges and especially during the reconstruction period following the Civil War. She explores the origins of the Civil Rights Movement within black Freemasonry and the roles played by Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois, founder of the NAACP, among others. Looking at the deep connections between jazz and Freemasonry, the author reveals how many of the most influential jazz musicians of the 20th century were also Masons, including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole, Eubie Blake, Cab Calloway, and Paul Robeson. Unveiling the deeply social role at the heart of black Freemasonry, Révauger shows how the black lodges were instrumental in helping American blacks transcend the horrors of slavery and prejudice, achieve higher social status, and create their own solid spiritually based social structure, which in some cities arose prior to the establishment of black churches.
Book Synopsis The Brotherhood of Freemason Sisters by : Lilith Mahmud
Download or read book The Brotherhood of Freemason Sisters written by Lilith Mahmud and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-03-28 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This “stupendous ethnography of female Freemasonry in Italy” reveals the fascinating paradox of elitism and exclusion experienced by “female brothers” (Michael Herzfeld, author of Evicted from Eternity). From its cryptic images on the dollar bill to Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, the Freemasons have long been one of the most romanticized secret societies in the world. But a simple fact escapes most depictions of this elite brotherhood: there are also female members. In this groundbreaking ethnography, Lilith Mahmud takes readers inside Masonic lodges of contemporary Italy, where she observes the ritualistic and fraternal bonds forged among Freemason women. Offering a tantalizing look behind lodge doors, The Brotherhood of Freemason Sisters unveils a complex culture of discretion in which Freemasons reveal some truths and hide others. Female initiates—one of Freemasonry’s best-kept secrets—are often upper class and highly educated, yet avowedly antifeminist. Their self-cultivation through the Masonic path is an effort to embrace the deeply gendered ideals of fraternity. In this lively investigation, Mahmud unravels the contradictions at the heart of Freemasonry: an organization responsible for many of the egalitarian concepts of the Enlightenment and yet one that has always been, and in Italy still remains, extremely exclusive. The result is not only a thrilling look at a surprisingly influential world, but a reevaluation of the modern values we now take for granted

This has created a domino effect of high visibility with negative repercussions that is gaining traction with the ability of masons to communicate, and see masonry practiced in all parts of the world like never before.
