Book Synopsis Splines and Compartment Models by : Karl-Ernst Biebler
Download or read book Splines and Compartment Models written by Karl-Ernst Biebler and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents methods of mathematical modeling from two points of view. Splines provide a general approach while compartment models serve as examples for context related to modeling. The preconditions and characteristics of the developed mathematical models as well as the conditions surrounding data collection and model fit are taken into account. The substantial statements of this book are mathematically proven. The results are ready for application with examples and related program codes given. In this book, splines are algebraically developed such that the reader or user can easily understand and vary the numerical construction of the different kinds of spline functions. The classical compartment models of the pharmacokinetics are systematically analyzed and connected with lifetime distributions. As such, parameter estimation and model fit can be treated statistically with a varied minimum chi-square method. This method is applicable for single kinetics and also allows the calculation of average kinetics.

Book Synopsis Modeling Multi-Level Systems by : Octavian Iordache
Download or read book Modeling Multi-Level Systems written by Octavian Iordache and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-02-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to modeling of multi-level complex systems, a challenging domain for engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs, confronted with the transition from learning and adaptability to evolvability and autonomy for technologies, devices and problem solving methods. Chapter 1 introduces the multi-scale and multi-level systems and highlights their presence in different domains of science and technology. Methodologies as, random systems, non-Archimedean analysis, category theory and specific techniques as model categorification and integrative closure, are presented in chapter 2. Chapters 3 and 4 describe polystochastic models, PSM, and their developments. Categorical formulation of integrative closure offers the general PSM framework which serves as a flexible guideline for a large variety of multi-level modeling problems. Focusing on chemical engineering, pharmaceutical and environmental case studies, the chapters 5 to 8 analyze mixing, turbulent dispersion and entropy production for multi-scale systems. Taking inspiration from systems sciences, chapters 9 to 11 highlight multi-level modeling potentialities in formal concept analysis, existential graphs and evolvable designs of experiments. Case studies refer to separation flow-sheets, pharmaceutical pipeline, drug design and development, reliability management systems, security and failure analysis. Perspectives and integrative points of view are discussed in chapter 12. Autonomous and viable systems, multi-agents, organic and autonomic computing, multi-level informational systems, are revealed as promising domains for future applications. Written for: engineers, researchers, entrepreneurs and students in chemical, pharmaceutical, environmental and systems sciences engineering, and for applied mathematicians.

Book excerpt: Closed-loop neurophysiology has been accelerated by recent software and hardware developments and by the emergence of novel tools to control neuronal activity with spatial and temporal precision, in which stimuli are delivered in real time based on recordings or behavior. Real-time stimulation feedback enables a wide range of innovative studies of information processing and plasticity in neuronal networks. This Research Topic e-Book comprises 16 Original Research Articles, seven Methods Articles, and seven Reviews, Mini- Reviews, and Perspectives, all peer-reviewed and published in Frontiers in Neural Circuits. The contributions deal with closed loop neurophysiology experiments at a variety of levels of neural circuit complexity. Some include modeling and theoretical analyses. New enabling technologies and techniques are described. Novel work is presented from experiments in vitro, in vivo, and in humans, along with their clinical and technological implications for improving the human condition.
Book Synopsis Positron Emission Tomography by : Dale L. Bailey
Download or read book Positron Emission Tomography written by Dale L. Bailey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-07-06 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essential for students, science and medical graduates who want to understand the basic science of Positron Emission Tomography (PET), this book describes the physics, chemistry, technology and overview of the clinical uses behind the science of PET and the imaging techniques it uses. In recent years, PET has moved from high-end research imaging tool used by the highly specialized to an essential component of clinical evaluation in the clinic, especially in cancer management. Previously being the realm of scientists, this book explains PET instrumentation, radiochemistry, PET data acquisition and image formation, integration of structural and functional images, radiation dosimetry and protection, and applications in dedicated areas such as drug development, oncology, and gene expression imaging. The technologist, the science, engineering or chemistry graduate seeking further detailed information about PET, or the medical advanced trainee wishing to gain insight into the basic science of PET will find this book invaluable. This book is primarily repackaged content from the Basic Science section of the 'big' Valk book on PET. It contains new, completely revised and unchanged chapters covering the "basic sciences" section of the main book - total 18 chapters: 2 new (chapters 1, 16) 8 completely revised (chapters 4, 5, 8, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18) 3 minor corrections (chapters 2, 6, 11) 5 unchanged (chapters 3, 7, 9, 10, 12)
Book Synopsis Compartmental Distribution Of Radiotracers by : James S. Robertson
Download or read book Compartmental Distribution Of Radiotracers written by James S. Robertson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The availability of isotopic varieties of the chemical elements has had a strong impact on many branches of science. For some procedures isotopic tracers make possible methods that are simply easier or more accurate or more convenient than other methods. More importantly, however, there are some processes, particularly those involving steady-state conditions, that before the advent of isotopic tracers were considered to be not accessible to investigation, but which can be studied with these tracers. In biological studies the radioactive tracers have been especially useful because external detection methods can be employed in noninvasive or minimally invasive studies.
Book Synopsis The Impact of Systems Medicine on Human Health and Disease by : Adil Mardinoglu
Download or read book The Impact of Systems Medicine on Human Health and Disease written by Adil Mardinoglu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2017-03-24 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complex disorders including obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disease and cancer are results from a combination of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. The prevalence of such disorders has increased dramatically in the last two decades and there is an urgent need for the development of new prognostic tools for the treatment of such diseases. However, this requires a deep understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms involved in the occurrence of the diseases. With the advances in high throughput technologies, biological components of cells can be measured with a very high resolution and these data can be used for investigating whole systems properties using a network-based approach. Systems medicine provides an integrative platform for studying the interactions between the biological components of the cell using a holistic approach and generating mechanistic explanations for the emergent systems properties. This inter-disciplinary field of study allows for understanding biological processes of cells in health and disease states, gaining new insights into what drives the appearance of the disease and finally identifying proteins and metabolites implicated in human disease. Systems medicine utilizes mathematical approaches to generate models which can be employed for designing new sets of experiments and for mapping the response of the system to perturbations quantitatively. These models as well as the developed tools can accelerate the emergence of personalized medicine which can transform the practice of medicine and offer better targets for drug development with minimum side effects.
