This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise of Reformation Without Tarying for Anie HE tract now first presented to the public in an English edition is that most popularly associated with the name of Robert Browne. It does not, as is commonly supposed, enunciate the theory of Congregational Independency but J it affirms a higher and more comprehensive principle, that of the mutual independence of Church and State. The original edition, printed in Holland m 1582, is extremely rare; only three Copies being known. A few years ago it was published in a cheap form in America. From an original at Yale College; and the present edition is from the American reprint, carefully collated with an original in the British Museum. It seems desirable to prefix a short biographical notice of the author who, besides being loaded with obloquy by opponents, has had the strange fortune of being repudiated by many of his most consistent disciples. Download or read book The Reformation in England written by Frederick Maurice Powicke and published by London : Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1941 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'The one definite thing which can be said about the reformation in England is that it was an act of State.' Sir Maurice Powicke sets out to give a dispassionate account of the actual process of the Reformation, without passing any judgement on the profound theological and moral issues involved. His study is an attempt to explain the way in which the transition from the medieval system to the organization of the Church in Tudor times was effected and the changes which this transition involved. It was by these political moves and these social adjustments more than any others that the English State and people were transformed from their medieval to their modern character. The book has long been prized for its clear analysis of a vexed period and the intuitive sympathy with which Sir Maurice regarded men as diverse as Sir Thomas More, Archbishop Cranmer, Bishop Gardiner and Cardinal Pole." -Publisher
