Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Hot Wire Anemometry by : Charles G. Lomas
Download or read book Fundamentals of Hot Wire Anemometry written by Charles G. Lomas and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-09 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 1985 book provides a summary of the theory and practice of the hot wire anemometer, an instrument used to measure the speed of fluid flow. Many techniques and uses of this instrument are discussed in detail. The author considers such topics as probe fouling, probe design, and circuit design, as well as the thermodynamics of heated wires and thin films. He also discusses measurements of turbulence, shear flows, vorticity, temperature, combined temperature and velocity, two-phase flows, and compressible flows for measurements in air, water, mercury, blood, glycerine, oil, luminous gases, and polymer solutions. The book concludes with a section on the pulsed wire anemometer and other wake-sensing anemometers. This book assumes a familiarity with basic fluid mechanics. However, mathematical descriptions occur near the end of each chapter thus allowing those with a limited mathematical background to make use of the practical details at the beginning of each chapter.

Book Synopsis Occupational Hygiene by : Kerry Gardiner
Download or read book Occupational Hygiene written by Kerry Gardiner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-04-15 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Employees, employers and the government have all become very awareof the effects on health of the work environment. As a result, thissubject area is rapidly developing with recent changes inlegislation, sampling and measurement methods, as well as a newemphasis on the psychological impact of work, and the importance ofan appropriate work-life balance. The purpose of this book is to provide a clear and conciseaccount of the principles of occupational hygiene and, as such, itis suitable for students studying for degree courses in thissubject and for the MFOM. It is also suitable for occupationalphysicians and nurses, to safety representatives and to tradeunionists. This edition sees the introduction of nine new chapters coveringrecently emerged topics such as work/life balance, workorganisation and pyschological issues.

Book Synopsis Ventilation of Buildings by : H.B. Awbi
Download or read book Ventilation of Buildings written by H.B. Awbi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-06-02 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hazim Awbi's Ventilation of Buildings has become established as the definitive text on the subject. This new, thoroughly revised, edition builds on the basic principles of the original text drawing in the results of considerable new research in the field. A new chapter on natural ventilation is also added and recent developments in ventilation concepts and room air distribution are also considered. The text is intended for the practitioner in the building services industry, the architect, the postgraduate student undertaking courses or research in HVAC, building services engineering, or building environmental engineering, and the undergraduate studying building services as a major subject. Readers are assumed to be familiar with the basic principles of fluid flow and heat transfer and some of the material requires more advanced knowledge of partial differential equations which describe the turbulent flow and heat transfer processes of fluids. The book is both a presentation of the practical issues that are needed for modern ventilation system design and a survey of recent developments in the subject

Book Synopsis Modelling the Flying Bird by : C.J. Pennycuick
Download or read book Modelling the Flying Bird written by C.J. Pennycuick and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2008-08-23 with total page 495 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book outlines the principles of flight, of birds in particular. It describes a way of simplifying the mechanics of flight into a practical computer program, which will predict in some detail what any bird, real or hypothetical, can and cannot do. The Flight program, presented on the companion website, generates performance curves for flapping and gliding flight, and simulations of long-distance migration and accounts successfully for the consumption of muscles and other tissues during migratory flights. The program is effectively a working model of a flying bird (or bat or pterosaur) and is the skeleton around which the book is built. The book provides a wider background and then explains how Flight works and shows how to set up and test hypotheses generated by the program. The book and the program are based on adapting the conventional (and well-tested) thinking of aeronautical engineers to the biological problems of bird flight. Their primary aim is to convince biologists that this is the appropriate way to handle problems that involve flight, to make the engineering background accessible to biologists, and to provide a tool kit in the shape of the Flight program, which they can use to solve practical problems involving bird flight and migration. In addition, the book will be readily accessible to engineers who want to know how birds work, and should be of interest to the ever-growing community working on flapping "micro air vehicles" (MAVs). The program can be used to predict the flight performance and capabilities of reconstructed fossil birds and pterosaurs, flying in ancient atmospheres that differ from present conditions, and also, of course, to predict and account for the results of experiments and observations on living birds and bats.* An up to date work by the world's leading expert on bird flight* Examines the biology and biomechanics of bird flight with added reference to the flight of bats and pterosaurs.* Uses proven aeronautical principles to help solve biological issues in understanding and predicting the flight capabilities of birds and other vertebrates.* Provides insights into the evolution of flight and the likely capabilities of extinct birds and reptiles.* Gives a detailed explanation of the science behind, and use of, the author's predictive bird flight simulation program - Flight - which is available on a companion website.* Presents often difficult concepts in easily understood language.
