Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Geodetic Astronomy Astronomy contains more mathematics than a student can be expected to master thoroughly in that period. Of various other text-books available none seem to fit the special condi tions. In the wording of the book it is tacitly assumed that the observer is in the northern hemisphere. To make the word ing general would require too many circumlocutions. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Through the Depths of Space: A Primer of Astronomy The object of this little book is to give in simple language a comprehensive idea of the Universe. It is intended to supply a felt want, and does not aspire to be an exhaustive text-book of the science of astronomy; neither does it aspire to deal with the mathematical and instrumental sides of the science. The use of technical phrases has been as far as possible avoided, so that the beginner may have no difficulty in thoroughly mastering the book and in proceeding to the more advanced works on the subject. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of Field Astronomy for Engineers The present work is not designed for professional students of astronomy, but for another and larger class found in technical colleges. For many years it has been the author' s duty to teach to students of engineering the elements of practical astronomy, and the experience thus acquired has gradually produced the unconventional views that find expression in the present text and which, to the author's mind, are justified by the following considerations. Download or read book A Text-Book of General Astronomy written by Charles A. Young and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Text-Book of General Astronomy: For Colleges and Scientific Schools The present work is designed as a text-book of Astronomy suited to the general course in our colleges and Schools of science, and is meant to supply that amount of information upon the subject which may fairly be expected of every liberally educated person. W'hile it assumes the previous discipline and mental maturity usually corresponding to the latter years Of'lthe college course, it does not demand the peculiar mathematical training and aptitude necessary as the basis of a special course in the science - only the most ele mentary knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry is required for its reading. Its aim is to give a clear, accu rate, and justly proportioned presentation of astronomical facts, principles, and methods in such a form that they can be easily apprehended by the average college student with a reasonable amount of effort. The limitations Of time are such in our college course that probably it will not be possible in most cases for a class to take thoroughly everything in the book. The fine print is to be regarded rather as collateral reading, important to any thing like a complete view of the subject, but not essential to the course. Some of the chapters can even be omitted in cases where it is found necessary to abridge the course as much as possible; e.g., the chapters on Instruments and on Perturbations. Download or read book General Astronomy (Classic Reprint) written by H. Spencer Jones and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Astronomy In this work the Author has endeavoured to cover as wide a field as possible and it has necessarily been somewhat difficult to decide upon what to include and What to omit, especially when dealing with the most recent developments. It is hoped, however, that the book will serve to give the reader a sufficiently complete view of the present state of Astronomy. Mathematics has been almost entirely excluded in order that the volume may appeal to the amateur, no less than the student. Where possible mathematical methods of reasoning have been followed, which it is hoped will prove of value to students of elementary mathematical astronomy in clothing the symbols with more descriptive matter than is given in the text-books on Mathematical Astronomy. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Astronomy: Without Mathematics The sale of 3000 copies Of this book in little more than a year, many of them to persons Of more educa tion than I originally contemplated, has induced me to enlarge it considerably, going rather deeper into the subject, and adding some explanations which I did not venture on before. The additions chiefly relate to meteors, nebulae, and stars, the moon's acceleration and other disturbances, the tides, and the calculations for Easter in all ages; and a fuller account Of the meth ods of weighing the sun, moon, and planets. The chap ter on telescopes also has been greatly enlarged; for astronomy lives by them, and I do not know where a popular explanation Of the theory Of telescopes is to be found.
