This book was released on 1976 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study notes the increasing concern over logging residue in forest land management and describes the various administrative and technological means for accomplishing reductions of logging residue. Alternative sales arrangements can include such things as reduction of stumpage charges for low quality logs or required yarding of unutilized material to the landing or to some stockpiling or disposal point. Improvements in materials handling can include use of logging systems that create less breakage or that can handle small pieces more efficiently. Specialized chip mills and increased chip markets, including chip exports, can give added incentive for removal of formerly unutilized material. Other potentials for utilization are also indicated.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An estimated 466 million ft 3 of forest residue material (nonmerchantable, 3 inches diameter and larger) is generated annually in the Northern Rocky Mountains (Montana, Idaho, Wyoming). Extensive studies of residues in the major forest types show a considerable portion is suited for various products. The lodgepole pine type has the greatest potential for increased residue utilization. In most other forest types, form and condition of residues limit potential use to fiber or fuel. In all forest types, volume, condition, and product potential vary widely from stand to stand.
