Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined nurses' attitudes toward computers before training and 2 months after training. A quantitative approach and a nonexperimental survey design were used in this study. Stronge and Brodt's (1985) instrument, Nurses' Attitudes Toward Computerization Questionnaire, was used to assess 27 nurses' attitudes prior to and 2 months after computer training. Demographic variables also were collected on the questionnaires. The results of this study showed that, overall, nurses had positive attitudes towards computers in both questionnaires. The results of the first questionnaire were consistent with other studies. There were no studies that involved a follow-up questionnaire using Stronge and Brodt's (1985) instrument. Attitude scores of Questionnaire 2 were higher than attitude scores of Questionnaire 1. More time for nursing tasks, less time for quality patient care, and threat to job security questions were found to be statistically significant. This study found no statistical significance between attitudes and demographic variables. Younger nurses a~d nurses with fewer years of computer experience were most likely to exhibit positive attitudes. Implications for practice and future research were discussed. Some limitations were identified and discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a descriptive study to examine nurses' attitudes toward computerization. The project used a non-experimental design, and data was collected using an attitude-scale questionnaire which was given to 800 nurses working in one medical center. Statistical tests to compare variances in groups were used to determine if demographic variables could distinguish subjects with more or less favorable attitudes toward computers. The attitude towards computers served as the dependent variable. Age, gender, years spent in nursing, computer exposure, and education level served as the independent variables. The following hypotheses were tested: (1) There is no relationship between age and attitude in regard to computers; (2) there is no relationship between gender and attitude in regard to computers; (3) there is no relationship between years spent in nursing and attitude in regard to computers; (4) there is no relationship between exposure to computers and attitude in regard to computers; and (5) there is no relationship between education level and attitude in regard to computers. Results were compared to other research data related to nursings' endeavors to computerize. Essentially this study supports past findings that suggests nurses with higher levels of education and those with more computer exposure seem to have more positive attitudes towards computers. Findings of this study will give direction for developing a teaching program to prepare nurses for using computers on nursing units.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to measure nurses' attitudes towards computerization and identify variables that related to these attitudes. A convenience sample of 103 subjects participated in this study. Criteria for inclusion in this voluntary study was that each respondent was a licensed registered professional nurse. The sample was obtained from the graduate students in the nursing department at Wagner College. Data were collected using a demographic data sheet and Stronge and Brodt's, Nurses Attitudes Toward Computerization Questionnaire. The research design was a non-experimental descriptive study. The theoretical framework utilized in this study was Roy's adaptation model. The data were analyzed using the Epi Info and Numbers Cruncher Statistical Packages. Results revealed that the nurses in this study had positive computer-related attitudes.

Book excerpt: Computer knowledge and skills are becoming essential components technology in nursing education. Saudi nurses must be prepared to utilize these technologies for the advancement of science and nursing practice in local and global communities. Little attention has been directed to students' attitudes about computer usage in academic communities in Saudi Arabia. Their attitudes about the use of computers for the enhancement of learning are relatively unknown. Few research studies have been identified that explicate Saudi Arabian nursing students' attitudes toward computer usage for the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Despite studies that have been conducted in the United States and other western industrial countries about students' attitudes toward computers, such studies that focus on Saudi students' attitudes about computer usage in the learning environment are limited. There is no evidence that the use of computer technology in Saudi has been empirically examined. The purpose of this study was to contribute to the body of knowledge related to student nurses' attitudes toward computer usage during their pursuit of baccalaureate degrees in nursing at King Saud University
