This book was released on 2009 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to describe student's perspectives and attitudes about their experience with a service learning (SL) project. SUBJECTS Students enrolled in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy class of 2011 program at Springfield College will participate in the study. Inclusion criteria will require that the student be enrolled in the Integrated Clinical Experience course I and participate in the required 5 sessions in the Springfield College Stroke Exercise Group (SCSEG). METHODS: Participants were chosen for this study through a sample of convenience. After voluntary consent, each student was given the Health Professions Schools in Service to the Nation survey. Using this 28 item survey, the students ranked SL on four dimensions including: Perspectives about the SL course, attitudes toward community involvement, influence of service learning on future professional work, and personal reflections on the SL experience. ANALYSES: The analysis employed descriptive statistics to explore the students' aggregate attitudes and conceptualization of the value of SL. RESULTS: 100% of subjects agreed or strongly agreed that SL helped demonstrate how course material could be used in everyday life, awareness of community needs, and define personal strength and weaknesses. DISCUSSION: Subjects found that SCSEG helped them determine future career decisions, realization of personal strengths and weaknesses, enhanced personal and professional development, and found the experience beneficial to 7-the community. CONCLUSION: The SCSEG SL experience benefited students at Springfield College.
