Book excerpt: The authors report on the evidence for the decays B° → D{sub s}?− and B° → D{sub s}− K+ and the results of a search for the decays B° → D*{sub s}+?− and B° → D*{sub s}− K+ from a sample of 84 million?(4S) decays into B meson pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP II asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The measured B° → D{sub s}+?− yield has a probability of less than 10−3 to be a fluctuation of the background and they measure the branching fraction?(B° → D{sub s}+?−) = (3.2 ± 0.9(stat.) ± 1.0 (syst.)) x 10−5. The measured B° → D{sub s}− K+ yield has a probability of less than 5 x 10−4 to be a fluctuation of the background and they measure the branching fraction?(B° → D{sub s}− K+) = (3.2 ± 1.0(stat.) ± 1.0(syst.)) x 10−5. They also set 90% C.L. limits?(B° → D*{sub s}+?−)

Book excerpt: The authors report the measurement of the branching fractions of the rare decays B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)+}?−, B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)+}?−, and B° → D{sub s}{sup (*)-} K{sup (*)+} in a sample of 381 x 106?(4S) decays into B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy ee− storage ring. They present evidence for the decay B° → D{sub s}− K*+ and the vector-vector decays B° → D{sub s}{sup *+}?− and B° → D{sub s}{sup *-} K{sup *+}, as well as the first measurement of the vector meson polarization in these decays. They also determine the ratios of the CM-suppressed to CKM-favored amplitudes r(D{sup (*)}?) and r(D{sup (*)}?) in decays B° → D{sup (*)}{sup {+-}}?{sup {-+}} and B° → D{sup (*)}{sup {+-}}?{sup {-+}}, and comment on the prospects for measuring the Cp observable sin(2? +?).

Download or read book Status of a Study of the Decay K. --]. Pi. . Nu written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AGS-787, BNL-Princeton-TRIUMF, began taking data in February 1988 on rare K decays into .pi. and non-interacting neutrals. Recent observations of B-/bar B/ mixing have sharpened the branching ratio prediction of the three generation standard model, (SM), to (approximately) 1-5 x 10−1° for .pi.+.nu./bar /nu//. The detector has 2.pi. acceptance for this decay and 4.pi. acceptance for background gammas. A very large window for viewing new physics exists between the SM value and the previous experimental limit of 1.4 x 10−7. Several other predicted rare K+ decays can be detected. The performance of the detector is described. 8 refs., 4 figs.

Book excerpt: Ds mesons are fully reconstructed from four final states using approximately 229fb-1 of data delivered by the PEP-II e+e- collider and collected by the BaBar experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre during the period 1999 to 2004. Measurements of the exclusive branching fractions (average over charge-conjugate decays), B, of the decays D+s → K+[pi]0, D+s→ [pi]+K0 and D+s → [pi]+[pi]0 relative to the reference mode D+s → K+$\bar{K}$0 are presented.

Download or read book Study of the Rare Decay B0 to Pi0 Pi0 at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The BABAR experiment operating at the PEP-II ee− collider is designed to study CP violation effects in the B-meson system. From May 1999 to June 2002 approximately 81 fb−1 of data have been collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance, containing (87.9 ± 1.4) Million BB pairs. From this data sample the branching fraction for the decay B° 2![pi]°[pi]° has been extracted using a multi-dimensional maximum likelihood technique. With an efficiency of 20.4%, we find 3614−1{sup +15+1} B° 2![pi]°[pi]° events and measure the branching fraction to be [Beta](B° 2![pi]°[pi]°) = (2.0{sub -0.8-0.2}{sup +0.9+0.3}) x 10−6 where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The statistical significance is 3.1[sigma] and we report an upper limit of [Beta](B° 2![pi]°[pi]°)
