That the main character is perceptive, considerate and analytical, suggesting that that homeless people in important ways are no different than you or I, and the paradox of the story, that there are many homeless people in San Francisco and little is done to help them, despite San Francisco's tourism industry and the large percentage of residents who value social responsibility, while San Francisco's attractive nature (described in the story), draws the city dweller's attention to the beauty of life, will bring the reader to be all the more aware that there are social injustices in United States. The author hopes this story raises public consciousness about social injustices in United States, including the problem of police brutality such that people will tend more to empathize with the viewpoint that there is nothing wrong with sharing the wealth (that communism and socialism are of beauty and of worth), so that there are far less social injustices internationally. The book begins with a narration about San Francisco's nature (including a description of the city's severe weather ) and an account of my encounter with a homeless person, switching thereafter to a homeless person's description of his experiences of being homeless.
