Book Synopsis Metallurgy and Properties of Thoria-strengthened Nickel by : L. P. Rice
Download or read book Metallurgy and Properties of Thoria-strengthened Nickel written by L. P. Rice and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memorandum deals with the metallurgy and properties of thoria-strengthened nickel, a material which shows promise as a structural metal for use in the temperature range of 1900 to 2400 F where the present nickel- and cobalt-base superalloys lose most of their useful strength. Discussed in the memorandum are methods of producing dispersions in metals, and the processing variables involved in making dispersion-strengthened nickel. An entire section on the mechanical properties of thoria-strengthened nickel is included. Given in this section are tensile, creep-rupture, shear, and fatigue properties, as well as the effect of various thermal and mechanical treatments on the material. Physical-property data comprise one section of the memorandum, and oxidation resistance another. In a section on joining the following joining processes are discussed: resistance welding, flash welding, brazing, diffusion bonding by hot pressing, electron-beam welding, fusion welding, and others. In the last section of the memorandum the author presents an outlook for future developments of dispersion-strengthened nickel. (Author).

Book Synopsis Aluminum Alloys--contemporary Research and Applications by : Asuri K. Vasudevan
Download or read book Aluminum Alloys--contemporary Research and Applications written by Asuri K. Vasudevan and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 736 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the structure and properties of the current and potential aluminum alloys in terms of their structure (and structural transformations by new processing methods) and the relationship between structure and mechanical and other properties. The alternative materials that challenge aluminum are considered as well, since the challenge of new competitive materials is a strong influence on innovation. The book bridges the gap between current scientific understanding and engineering practice. It is an up-to-date reference that will be of use to researchers and advanced students in metallurgy and materials engineering.
Book Synopsis Superalloys, Supercomposites and Superceramics by : John K Tien
Download or read book Superalloys, Supercomposites and Superceramics written by John K Tien and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superalloys, Supercomposites and Superceramics reviews the state of superalloy technology and some of the more salient aspects of alternative high temperature systems such as superceramics and supercomposites. Superalloy topics range from resource availability to advanced processing such as VIM, VAR, and VADAR, along with investment casting and single crystal growth, new superplastic forming techniques and powder metallurgy, structure property relationships, strengthening mechanisms, oxidation, hydrogen embrittlement, and phase predictions. This book is comprised of 22 chapters that explore key issues of high temperature materials in a synergistic manner. The first chapter reflects on the growth of the superalloy industry and its technology over the past 40 years. The discussion then turns to some of the trends in superalloy development, focusing on what is understood to be meant by the term strategic materials and the current status of resources and reserves in the United States. Particular attention is given to the supply sources and availability of strategic materials. The results achieved from the research program undertaken by NASA Lewis Research Center named Conservation Of Strategic Aerospace Materials (COSAM) are also presented. The chapters that follow explore alternative high temperature systems such as intermetallics, fiber reinforced superalloys, and the processing and high temperature properties of ceramics and carbon-carbon composites. This book will be a valuable resource for professionals and graduate students interested in learning about superalloys, supercomposites, and superceramics.
