Download or read book The Diffusion of Information Technology written by Ken Guy and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Bank Discussion Paper No. 281.This study examines the best practices of eight OECD countries--Canada, Germany, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States--in designing national policies and programs to accelerate the effective use of information technology in support of industrial competitiveness. New technologies in computing, communications, and multimedia are changing the competitive advantage of industries, services, and entire economies. Enterprises must therefore increase their technological development and education through government assistance. The emerging experience is rich and diverse. The study draws on the tacit knowledge of the designers and implementors of national policies and programs to establish key rules-of-thumb for future programs. The authors outline broad directions for adapting these practices to the conditions of developing countries.

Download or read book Global Integration and Technology Transfer written by Bernard M. Hoekman and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006-04-27 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of international technology diffusion (ITD) for economic development can hardly be overstated. Both the acquisition of technology and its diffusion foster productivity growth. Developing countries have long sought to use both national policies and international agreements to stimulate ITD. The 'correct' policy intervention, if any, depends critically upon the channels through which technology diffuses internationally and the quantitative effects of the various diffusion processes on efficiency and productivity growth. Neither is well understood. New technologies may be embodied in goods and transferred through imports of new varieties of differentiated products or capital goods and equipment, they may be obtained through exposure to foreign buyers or foreign investors or they may be acquired through arms-length trade in intellectual property, e.g., licensing contracts. 'Global Integration and Technology Transfer' uses cross-country and firm level panel data sets to analyze how specific activities exporting, importing, FDI, joint ventures impact on productivity performance.

Book Synopsis Systems Approach to Appropriate Technology Transfer by : P. Fleissner
Download or read book Systems Approach to Appropriate Technology Transfer written by P. Fleissner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems Approach to Appropriate Technology Transfer is a collection of selected papers presented at the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Symposium, held in Vienna, Austria. The objective of the symposium is to analyze the transfer process of technologies by using the systems approach and gather insights that can be used for the enhancement of future transfer programs. The book is a rich presentation of articles and research papers from scientists and engineers from all over the world, and is composed of introductory, technical discussion, and round table discussion papers. The introductory papers give insights to the concepts of technology transfer, systems approach, and use of appropriate technologies. The technical discussions touch on technology transfer in selected fields, energy technologies, flexible manufacturing systems, information and communication, social and educational aspects, and case studies. The four round table discussions focus on the application of technologies to support small-scale enterprises and users’ participation; appropriate technology transfer on microelectronics; policies and strategies for appropriate technology transfer; and the impact of informatics on technology transfer. The text will appeal to computer scientists, engineers, policymakers, and students of information technology.
