Download or read book Quality Assurance in Higher Education: A Study of Developing Countries written by David Lim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-12 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2001. Universities in developing countries have followed their counterparts in developed countries and adopted quality assurance to improve the quality of their activities. This text examines the wisdom of such a move when many of the conditions necessary for its success are not present. It concludes that quality assurance can be useful in developing countries because it shows how a university's seemingly disparate activities are related to one another to serve a common goal and how the quality of these can best be improved by using an integrated approach. Quality assurance also provides more focus and direction to the work of the traditional university system. However, it must be modified to suit the conditions prevailing in developing countries by being simple in design, modest in expectations and realistic in requirements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seasonal limnological changes in the vicinity of a major (120 acres) recreational facility on Lake Sidney Lanier, Georgia were studied. During the study period only the beginning phases of construction occurred (clearing and grading land, road construction and utility installation). Parameters measured included: temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, Secchi disk transparency, and iron and nitrate concentrations. A positive heterograde oxygen profile developed during summer stratification. The lake water contained the nutrients necessary for the production of oxygen. However, they were not washed into the lake from the construction site. Lake Lanier could be caused to become eutrophic in a rather short period of time if the influent waters are allowed to be degraded by man-made wastes.

Download or read book Politics of Quality in Education written by Jaakko Kauko and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-11 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question of quality has become one of the most important framing factors in education and has been of growing interest to international organisations and national policymakers for decades. Politics of Quality in Education focuses on Brazil, China, and Russia, part of the so-called emerging nations’ BRICS block, and draws on a four-year project to develop a new theoretical and methodological approach. The book builds a comparative, sociohistorical, and transnational understanding of political relations in education, with a particular focus on the policies and practices of Quality Assurance and Evaluation (QAE). Tracking QAE processes from international organisations to individual schools, contributors analyse how QAE changes the dynamics in the roles of state, expertise, and governance. The book demonstrates how national and sub-national actors play a central role in the adaptation, modification or rejection of transnational policies. Politics of Quality in Education will be of great interest to academics, researchers and postgraduate students engaged in the study of comparative and international education, as well as educational policy and politics. It should also be essential reading for practitioners and policymakers.
