The model was used to analyze the effects of extended re-radiators on D/F accuracy and was examined both theoretically and experimentally. An explicit expression is obtained for the probability density distribution of the electric field amplitude as a function of each of two quantities; azimuthal position of the transmitter and transmitter frequency. The distribution is shown to be a one-parameter Rice distribution in each case. The parameter may be obtained by sampling over either azimuthal angle or frequency. It is suggested that this parameter be used as a single-number criterion for the evaluation of D/F sites. (Author).

T The system to be used for this study, the Wullenweber wide aperture set, is described in detail, noting the pertinent characteristics for this study. Some statistical characteristics involved in readout problems are discussed and the three basic requirements for the application of Wiener's work in time series are noted, along with the nature of the output ensemble from the DF receiver. Tchebysheff's inequality is applied to the prediction of sample size requirements, and some sampling rate considerations are noted in the light of the predicted sample sizes.
