Book excerpt: This book promotes new research results in the field of advanced fuzzy logic applications. The book has eight chapters, with the following thematic areas: fuzzy mathematics, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system, inference methods, expert systems, electrical systems, and application in management and field-programmable gate array. The introductory chapter aims to recall some algebraic relations that describe fuzzy rule bases and fuzzy blocks as algebraic applications. Other works presented are: a study on the convergence of sequence spaces with respect to intuitionistic fuzzy norms and their topological and algebraic properties; an ANFIS application to identifying the online bearing fault; methods of conditional inference for fuzzy control systems; an application of fuzzy logic and fuzzy expert systems in material synthesis methods; control of electrical systems in conditions of incomplete information regarding the values of diagnostic parameters; a methodology for evaluating the causality of factors in organization management; and a technical study on the functional safety of an FPGA fuzzy logic controller. The authors have published worked examples and case studies resulting from their research in the field. Readers will have access to new solutions and answers to questions related to the emerging field of theoretical fuzzy logic applications and their implementation.

Book Synopsis Ranked Set Sampling by : Munir Ahmad
Download or read book Ranked Set Sampling written by Munir Ahmad and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2010-09-13 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ranked Set Sampling is one of the new areas of study in this region of the world and is a growing subject of research. Recently, researchers have paid attention to the development of the types of sampling; though it was not welcome in the beginning, it has numerous advantages over the classical sampling techniques. Ranked Set Sampling is doubly random and can be used in any survey designs. The Pakistan Journal of Statistics had attracted statisticians and samplers around the world to write up aspects of Ranked Set Sampling. All of the essays in this book have been reviewed by many critics. This volume can be used as a reference book for postgraduate students in economics, social sciences, medical and biological sciences, and statistics. The subject is still a hot topic for MPhil and PhD students for their dissertations.

Book Synopsis The Fundamentals of Heavy Tails by : Jayakrishnan Nair
Download or read book The Fundamentals of Heavy Tails written by Jayakrishnan Nair and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-06-09 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heavy tails –extreme events or values more common than expected –emerge everywhere: the economy, natural events, and social and information networks are just a few examples. Yet after decades of progress, they are still treated as mysterious, surprising, and even controversial, primarily because the necessary mathematical models and statistical methods are not widely known. This book, for the first time, provides a rigorous introduction to heavy-tailed distributions accessible to anyone who knows elementary probability. It tackles and tames the zoo of terminology for models and properties, demystifying topics such as the generalized central limit theorem and regular variation. It tracks the natural emergence of heavy-tailed distributions from a wide variety of general processes, building intuition. And it reveals the controversy surrounding heavy tails to be the result of flawed statistics, then equips readers to identify and estimate with confidence. Over 100 exercises complete this engaging package.
Book Synopsis Correlated Data Analysis: Modeling, Analytics, and Applications by : Peter X. -K. Song
Download or read book Correlated Data Analysis: Modeling, Analytics, and Applications written by Peter X. -K. Song and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-30 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers recent developments in correlated data analysis. It utilizes the class of dispersion models as marginal components in the formulation of joint models for correlated data. This enables the book to cover a broader range of data types than the traditional generalized linear models. The reader is provided with a systematic treatment for the topic of estimating functions, and both generalized estimating equations (GEE) and quadratic inference functions (QIF) are studied as special cases. In addition to the discussions on marginal models and mixed-effects models, this book covers new topics on joint regression analysis based on Gaussian copulas.

This book was released on 2008-09-16 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote in the Preface to his famous Discourse on Inequality that “I consider the subject of the following discourse as one of the most interesting questions philosophy can propose, and unhappily for us, one of the most thorny that philosophers can have to solve. For how shall we know the source of inequality between men, if we do not begin by knowing mankind?” (Rousseau, 1754). This citation of Rousseau appears in an article in Spanish where Dagum (2001), in the memory of whom this book is published, also cites Socrates who said that the only useful knowledge is that which makes us better and Seneca who wrote that knowing what a straight line is, is not important if we do not know what rectitude is. These references are indeed a good illustration of Dagum’s vast knowledge, which was clearly not limited to the ?eld of Economics. For Camilo the ?rst part of Rousseau’s citation certainly justi?ed his interest in the ?eld of inequality which was at the centre of his scienti?c preoccupations. It should however be stressed that for Camilo the second part of the citation represented a “solid argument in favor of giving macroeconomic foundations to microeconomic behavior” (Dagum, 2001). More precisely, “individualism and methodological holism complete each other in contributing to the explanation of individual and social behavior” (Dagum, 2001).
