Book excerpt: During a 15-month period, 240 mongrel and 306 beagle dogs were surveyed for Leptospira titers and the sera from 24 mongrels and 22 beagles were positive. The incidence compared closely with results of authors in similar population areas in recent years, but it was low compared with older reports and foreign authors. Seasonal fluctuations were noted, since the highest incidence was recorded in fall months and lowest in summer months. Clinical signs in 34 positive animals included inflamed throats and tonsils, ocular and nasal discharges, scleral injection, loose stools, and anorexia. The most frequent microscopic lesions were pneumonitis and chronic interstitial nephritis. (Author).
