Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation is a record (unveiling) of events which were shown to the Apostle John by Jesus Christ. The revelation given to John spanned a period of time from approximately 93 AD until a new heaven and new earth is put into place after the Tribulation Period. Perhaps the greatest problem in properly understanding and interpreting the Revelation Record is that the Book of Revelation is not written in a time-sequenced, chronological narrative. General descriptions of things to come are presented and then later followed by details. In addition, parenthetical passages are inserted to describe or clarify main events. While the Book of Revelation is not presented in a chronological sequence, it is clearly divided into three main divisions: (1) Things which thou (John) hast seen, (2) Things which are (7 letters to 7 churches in Asia Minor and visions of God's Throne) and (3) Things which must be hereafter (The tribulation period, the 1000 year millennial kingdom and New Heavens and New Earth). This book arranges all 22 chapters, 404 verses and 12,000 words in the order in which they occur, with descriptive narratives and cross-references to "The Book of Revelation: Mysteries Revealed" by Don T. Phillips.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent times, many people have come to realize that this world is approaching its end. Most believe that GOD is in control of how it will end, and they are right! Not only is GOD in control, He has a Master Endtime Plan for this earth and its peoples. Moreover, in His Holy Word, the Bible, GOD has described His plan; He has described it very clearly and in great detail. This book desribes the entire Endtime Scenario, making it so simple anyone can understand it. It reviews the scriptures that describe each major Endtime happening and other scriptures that explicitly define the chronological sequence for those happenings. It identifies several calendar timelines within the scriptures that measure the precise times between various Endtime happenings. To give confidence in its conclusions, it identifies four separate sets of Scriptures that clearly define the sequence for the events that will lead to CHRIST'S return and the Christian Rapture/Ressurection. Everyone, even those who are not familiar with either the Bible or the Christian theology, should easily understand this book. They will understand the entire Endtime Scenario that JESUS CHRIST foretold, the major happenings that will take place, the sequence in which they will happen, and the specific scriptures that describe all these things. Moreover, they will understand how all of these things relate to GOD'S Covenants and His labors of the past 6000 years. They will see that all of the Endtime happenings are just the grand finale of those labors. Most importantly, each reader will not only allow what is going to happen in the Endtimes, he or she will know how they can control their own eternal destiny.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the cliché that 'a week is a long time in politics' and the aspiration of many political philosophers to give their ideas universal, timeless validity lies a gulf which the history of political thought is uniquely qualified to bridge. For that history shows that no conception of politics has dispensed altogether with time, and many have explicitly sought legitimacy in association with forms of history. Ranging from Justinian's law codes to rival Protestant and Catholic visions of political community after the Fall, from Hobbes and Spinoza to the Scottish Enlightenment, and from Kant and Savigny to the legacy of German Historicism and the Algerian Revolution, this volume explores multiple ways in which different conceptions of time and history have been used to understand politics since late antiquity. Bringing together leading contemporary historians of political thought, Time, History, and Political Thought demonstrates just how much both time and history have enriched the political imagination.

Book excerpt: With so much debate these days over the timing and sequence of end-times events, is there any hope of believers settling issues like the start of the 70th Week, the Second Coming of Christ, and the rapture of the Church in their own minds? The answer is unequivocally yes. Cameron Fultz, an end-times prophecy teacher and architect by trade, argues that, like a well-designed building, a biblical doctrine-any biblical doctrine-must start with a good foundation. This foundation must be built using the clearest, most explicit verses that directly address the subject at hand. On this foundation, we lay the secondary verses to add depth to the interpretation, followed by the tertiary verses, which layer on beauty and fine detail. In these pages, Fultz outlines this methodology, then uses it to build a doctrine on the issue of end-times timing and sequence. He starts by listing all of the verses that address the subject, both directly and indirectly, then builds the doctrine piece-by-piece. Using simple logic and precision, combined with abundant charts for easy comprehension, Fultz illustrates how, like a well-designed building, good biblical exegesis results in a precise, trustworthy result. Prophecy's Architecture will challenge those who are already committed to or unsure about today's ready-made explanations, and give others who don't know what they believe a systematic method for discovering answers for themselves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We planned this book as a Festschrift for Smitty Stevens because we thought he might be retiring around 1974, although we knew very well that only death or deep illness would stop Smitty from doing science. Death came suddenly, unexpectedly - after a full day of skiing at Vail, Colorado on the annual trip with wife Didi to the Winter Conference on Brain Research. Smitty liked winter conferences near ski resorts and often tried to get us other psychophysicists to organize one. Every person is unique. Smitty would have said it's mainly because each of us has so many genes that two combinations just alike would be well-nigh impossible. But most of us strive in many ways to be like others, and to abide by the norms (some smaller number try even harder to be unlike other people); as a result many persons seem to lose their uniqueness, their individuality. Not Smitty. He tried neither to be like others nor to be different. He took himself as he found himself, and ascribed peculiarities, strengths, and weaknesses to his pioneering Utah forebears, in whom he took much pride. His was the true and right nonconformity. He approached each task, each problem, ready to grapple with the facts and set them into meaningful order. And if the answer he came up with was different from everyone else's, well that was too bad.

Book excerpt: This engaging and authoritative four-volume resource offers fascinating portrayals of the 44 men who have achieved the ultimate seat of power in the United States—the presidency. From George Washington to Barack Obama, Chronology of the U.S. Presidency portrays each of the nation's chief executives in richly observed detail. Chapter by chapter, we meet the real flesh-and-blood men occupying the one office elected by the entire country, the office that most profoundly affects the workings of the government, U.S. relations with other countries, and the everyday lives of all American citizens. Spanning four volumes, this work covers each president's early life and rise to power, the pivotal events during his presidency, and when applicable, his post-presidential life. In addition, the book includes sections on the First Ladies and presidential families plus primary source documents (speeches, memos, messages to Congress), and entertaining FYI facts—for example, once bitter rivals John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died hours apart, on the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence they helped create together. More than just names-and-dates history, Chronology of the U.S. Presidency helps readers understand the ways each of these intriguing men changed the country, and how he in turn was impacted by his time in power.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Harry Heft examines the historical and theoretical foundations of James J. Gibson's ecological psychology in 20th century thought, and in turn, integrates ecological psychology and analyses of sociocultural processes. A thesis of the book is that knowing is rooted in the direct experience of meaningful environmental objects and events present in individual-environment processes and at the level of collective, social settings. Ecological Psychology in Context: *traces the primary lineage of Gibson's ecological approach to William James's philosophy of radical empiricism; *illuminates how the work of James's student and Gibson's mentor, E.B. Holt, served as a catalyst for the development of Gibson's framework and as a bridge to James's work; *reveals how ecological psychology reciprocally can advance Jamesian studies by resolving some of the theoretical difficulties that kept James from fully realizing a realist philosophy; *broadens the scope of Gibson's framework by proposing a synthesis between it and the ecological program of Roger Barker, who discovered complex systems operating at the level of collective, social processes; *demonstrates ways in which the psychological domain can be extended to properties of the environment rendering its features meaningful, publicly accessible, and distributed across person-environment processes; and *shows how Gibson's work points the way toward overcoming the gap between experimental psychology and the humanities. Intended for scholars and students in the areas of ecological and environmental psychology, theoretical and historical psychology, cognitive science, developmental psychology, anthropology, and philosophy.
