Download or read book A Royal Priesthood written by John A. Davies and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2004-06-01 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the portrayal of Israel as a royal-priestly nation within Exodus and against the background of biblical and ancient Near Eastern thought. Central to the work is a literary study of Exodus 19:4-6 and a demonstration of the pivotal role these verses and their main image have within Exodus. This elective and honorific designation of Yahweh's cherished people has a particular focus on the privilege of access to him in his heavenly temple. The paradigm of the royal grant of privileged status has profound implications for our understanding of the Sinai covenant.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Biblical Theology of the Royal Priesthood from Genesis to Revelation "You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." —1 Peter 2:9 From Genesis to Revelation, the theme of the royal priesthood is a silver thread running through the biblical story from the garden of Eden through the priesthood of Israel to Jesus Christ—the true and better priest. It culminates with the creation of God's covenant people, called out of the nations to be his priests to the nations. In this concise treatment, David Schrock traces this theme of priesthood throughout the Bible and displays to readers how Jesus, the great high priest, informs the worship, discipleship, and evangelism of the church. Short and Accessible: Traces the theme of priesthood from Genesis to Revelation and gives practical application for the church today Written for Laypeople and Church Leaders: Excellent for students, Bible studies, small groups, and leaders of all levels Part of the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series

Book excerpt: We are engaged in the conflict of the ages and for the first time in this generation, the sons of the Kingdom are awakening to the reality that the Kingdom has, is and will continue to come. It is not limited to a lifetime, generation or millennium. The defeated-one has been stripped of his rank power and authority. He is an interloper and usurper who no longer has a right to rule and reign. He is using deception and division to advance his anti-messianic message, and strong delusion, hatred, and intimidation to forward his agenda. He knows that we are not waiting to win. We won 2000 years ago. We are THE CHOSEN. This is our day and VICTORY is ours for the taking."As long as one son is alive on planet earth, the defeated-one will never again rise to power."His sons are awakening to the reality that WHAT we are doing is not working very well and they are also becoming aware that we have been sorely misinformed about a great many things. The order and government of Yahweh is both uncomfortable and disconcerting to the orphan of our soul, but then the son in us begins to surrender by the Spirit to the Sovereign will and authority of the King and His Domain. It is my hope that the revelatory knowledge contained in this book will provide a workable solution that produces Kingdom results."The gospel of the Kingdom is good news. Beware of those who make it about coming events."It is my prayer that this book will challenge all of us to continue to think outside of the box when it comes to our quest for TRUTH.

Book Synopsis Royal Priesthood by : John Howard Yoder
Download or read book Royal Priesthood written by John Howard Yoder and published by MennoMedia, Inc.. This book was released on 1998-12-11 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Readers will discover that it is not possible to disengage John Howard Yoder’s practice of ecumenical dialogue from his vision of the church. Yoder’s approach to ecumenical dialogue correlates with his conception of the faithfulness of the church. His vision of the church poses challenges for Christians of all communions because he calls both for disciplined dialogue and for faithful servanthood that renders the confession of Jesus Christ’s lordship meaningful. This collection of 17 essays on themes ecclesiological and ecumenical is intended to demonstrate the substantial unity of Yoder’s work over the past four decades. Many of these essays are often cited by researchers but have been till now unobtainable. Three of these texts have never been published before. Editor Michael Cartwright has contributed a substantial introduction on the “Yoderian” project, and a select bibliography prepared by Mark Nation catalogs Yoder’s writings—published and unpublished—on ecclesiology and ecumenism.

Book Synopsis The Priesthood of All Believers and the Missio Dei by : Henry Joseph Voss
Download or read book The Priesthood of All Believers and the Missio Dei written by Henry Joseph Voss and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-10-25 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The priesthood of all believers is a pillar undergirding Protestant ecclesiology. Yet the doctrine has often been used to serve diverse agendas. This book examines the doctrine's canonical, catholic, and contextual dimensions. It first identifies the priesthood of all believers as a canonical doctrine based upon the royal priesthood of Christ and closely related to the believer's eschatological temple-service and offering of spiritual sacrifices (chapters 1-3). It secondly describes its catholic development by examining three paradigmatic shifts, shifts especially associated with Christendom (chapters 4-6) and a suppression of the doctrine's missional component. Finally, the book argues that a Christian doctrine of the priesthood of all believers should be developed with a Christocentric-Trinitarian understanding of the missio Dei. This suggests there are especially appropriate ways for the royal priesthood to relate to the Father, to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. A canonically and catholically informed priesthood of all believers leads contextually to particular ecclesial practices. These seven practices are 1) Baptism as public ordination to the royal priesthood; 2) Prayer; 3) Lectio Divina; 4) Ministry; 5) Church Discipline; 6) Proclamation; and 7) the Lord's Supper as the renewal of the royal priesthood.
Book Synopsis The Temple and the Tabernacle by : J. Daniel Hays
Download or read book The Temple and the Tabernacle written by J. Daniel Hays and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2016-08-02 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Grasp the Majesty, Beauty, and Significance of God's Dwelling Places At various points in Israel's history, God dwelt in specific, significant places, most notably in the tabernacle and the temple. These structures, meticulously planned, extravagantly furnished, and regularly frequented by the devout, were more than just places of worship and sacrifice. They were pictures of God's relationship with his chosen people and of the atoning work that would be done by the Messiah. To understand the tabernacle and the temple, then, is to understand how we are brought into God's family through the sacrifice of his only Son, Jesus. Visually stunning and theologically rich, this full-color resource brings together the latest scholarship and archeological discoveries to bring God's dwelling places alive for modern believers. It places these important structures in their historical and theological contexts, connects them with the overall biblical story, and shows how they bring meaning and depth to the faith of Christians today.

What Is Reformed Theology? is an accessible introduction to beliefs that have been immensely influential in the evangelical church. In this insightful book, R. C. Sproul walks readers through the foundations of the Reformed doctrine and explains how the Reformed belief is centered on God, based on God's Word, and committed to faith in Jesus Christ. Sproul explains the five points of Reformed theology and makes plain the reality of God's amazing grace.
Book Synopsis Jesus the Priest by : Nicholas Perrin
Download or read book Jesus the Priest written by Nicholas Perrin and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2018-08-16 with total page 1303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This major new study advances our understanding of the historical Jesus by exploring the model of Jesus the priest. As priest, Jesus claims to reveal God’s unchanging character through his own person; as priest, too, he announces the impending eschatological climax, constituted by the arrival of the heavenly temple on earth. Focusing on critically assured sayings of Jesus, Perrin argues that the two announcements (the kingdom and Jesus’ priesthood) are mutually confirming and mutually authenticating. The nature of the kingdom is derived from his priestly office; his priestly office is given shape and substance through teachings on the kingdom. Jesus saw himself as the unique eschatological high priest and therefore as the local embodiment of Yahweh. He announced the kingdom of God as the space of true worship; he regarded his life as revealing both the identity of God and the true worship of God. Contents Introduction 1. The Prayer of Jesus 2. The Baptism of Jesus 3. The Kingdom of Jesus 4. Jesus Son of David 5. The Identity of the Son of Man 6. A Re-envisioned Priesthood 7. Final Confrontations Conclusion
