Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis and ADINA contains the proceedings of the Fourth ADINA Conference held at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on June 15-17, 1983. Separating the papers presented in the conference as chapters, this book first elucidates the use of ADINA for analysis of mines with explosive fills. Subsequent chapters explore the use of ADINA in soil mechanics; nonlinear shell analysis; analysis of bond between prestressed steel and concrete; determination and simulation of stable crack growth; offshore structures analysis; modeling of traveling-loads and time-dependent masses; and comparison of two slideline methods. Other notable applications of ADINA are also shown.

Download or read book Residual Stresses written by A. Niku-Lari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Residual Stresses presents a collection of articles that provides information regarding the use of surface treatment systems. It discusses the developments in the technology and application of surface treatment. It addresses the influence of minor stresses on the performance of materials. Some of the topics covered in the book are the introduction to self-equilibrating stresses existing in materials, the stresses that form as a consequence of welding, the stresses made by machining, and the mechanical generation of self-stresses. The analysis of the stresses caused by thermal and thermochemical surface treatments is covered. The minor stresses in composite materials are discussed. The text describes the stresses in uranium and uranium alloys. The Trepan or ring core method, centre-hole method, and Sach's method are presented. A chapter of the volume is devoted to the measurement of residual stresses. Another section of the book focuses on the application of shot peened plates to residual stress distribution. The book will provide useful information to mechanics, engineers, students, and researchers.

Book Synopsis Stress-intensity Factors for Single-edge-notch Specimens in Bending Or Combined Bending and Tension by Boundary Collocation of a Stress Function by : Bernard Gross
Download or read book Stress-intensity Factors for Single-edge-notch Specimens in Bending Or Combined Bending and Tension by Boundary Collocation of a Stress Function written by Bernard Gross and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A boundary-value-collocation procedure was used in conjunction with the Williams stress function to determine values of the stress-intensity factor K for single edge cracks of various depths in specimens subjected to pure bending. The results are of use in connection with K(sub Ic) fracture toughness tests, which utilize rectangular-section crack-notch beam specimens loaded in four-point bending, and are in good agreement with published results derived from experimental compliance measurements. The results are expressed in convenient, compact form in terms of the dimensionless quantity Y(exp 2)=K(exp 2)B(exp 2)W(exp 3)/M(exp 2), which is a function of relative crack depth a/W only, where B and W are the specimen width and thickness and M is the applied bending moment. On the assumption that the condition for a valid K(sub Ic) test is that the maximum nominal stress at the crack tip should not exceed the yield strength of the material, the K(sub Ic) measurement capacity of bend specimens was estimate as a function of a/W. The measurement capacity is proportional to the yield strength and to the square root of the specimen depth, and it is greatest for a/W in the range 0.2 to 0.3. Values of K for single-edge-notch specimens subjected to combined bending and tension were obtained by superposition of the present results and those of earlier work for specimens loaded in uniform tension. These values are of interest in connection with the use of single-edge-notch specimens that are off-center pin-loaded in tension. It is shown that the K(sub Ic) measurement capacity of such specimens is not very sensitive to the eccentricity of loading.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Behaviour of Materials - VI by : M. Jono
Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials - VI written by M. Jono and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 3510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant progress in the science and technology of the mechanical behaviour of materials has been made in recent years. The greatest strides forward have occurred in the field of advanced materials with high performance, such as ceramics, composite materials, and intermetallic compounds. The Sixth International Conference on Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM-6), taking place in Kyoto, Japan, 29 July - 2 August 1991 addressed these issues. In commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Japan Society of Materials Science, organised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Science and supported by the Science Council of Japan, the information provided in these proceedings reflects the international nature of the meeting. It provides a valuable account of recent developments and problems in the field of mechanical behaviour of materials.
