Download or read book Handbook of Empirical Economics and Finance written by Aman Ullah and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Handbook of Empirical Economics and Finance explores the latest developments in the analysis and modeling of economic and financial data. Well-recognized econometric experts discuss the rapidly growing research in economics and finance and offer insight on the future direction of these fields. Focusing on micro models, the first group of chapters describes the statistical issues involved in the analysis of econometric models with cross-sectional data often arising in microeconomics. The book then illustrates time series models that are extensively used in empirical macroeconomics and finance. The last set of chapters explores the types of panel data and spatial models that are becoming increasingly significant in analyzing complex economic behavior and policy evaluations. This handbook brings together both background material and new methodological and applied results that are extremely important to the current and future frontiers in empirical economics and finance. It emphasizes inferential issues that transpire in the analysis of cross-sectional, time series, and panel data-based empirical models in economics, finance, and related disciplines.

Book Synopsis Empirical Analysis of Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth by : André van Stel
Download or read book Empirical Analysis of Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth written by André van Stel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of entrepreneurship for achieving economic growth in contemporary economies is widely recognized, both by policy makers and economists. It is deeply embedded in the current European policy approach that the creativity and independence of entrepreneurs contribute to higher levels of economic activity. Indeed, according to the European Commission (2003, p. 9), "The challenge for the European Union is to identify the key factors for building a climate in which entrepreneurial initiative and business activities can thrive. Policy measures should seek to boost the Union's levels of entrepreneurship, adopting the most appropriate approach for producing more entrepreneurs and for getting more firms to grow. " Audretsch (2003, p. 5) states that "Entrepreneurship has become the engine of economic and social development throughout the world. " The relation between entrepreneurship and economic growth is embedded in several strands of the economic literature. A first strand of literature involves the general understanding of the role of entrepreneurship in the modern economy. Seminal contributions were made by Schumpeter (1934), Knight (1921) and Kirzner (1973). These economists stress different aspects of the role of the entrepreneur. While Schumpeter stresses the innovating aspect, Knight stresses the risk assuming aspect. Kirzner, finally, stresses the role of the entrepreneur in leading markets to equilibrium. Acs (1992) discusses the contribution of small firms in modern economies.

Book Synopsis Australia's Cash Economy: A Troubling Issue for Policymakers by : Christopher Bajada
Download or read book Australia's Cash Economy: A Troubling Issue for Policymakers written by Christopher Bajada and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2002: Very little is known on the Australian underground economy. Only speculation has offered estimates of its size - around ten per cent of GDP. This book provides comprehensive research on the topic for Australia, including the suggestion that the underground economy exhibits strong fluctuations. The text has three central objectives: to understand why a suspiciously large amount of currency remains outstanding and cannot be explained by legitimate transactions alone. Secondly, to examine factors that motivate individuals to participate in the underground economy and the consequences they may have on the business cycle, on the quality of the National Accounts and on taxation revenue. And finally, to examine whether households or businesses are contributing most to the underground economy and whether the new tax system, introduced in July 2000, will have any impact on underground activities in Australia.
