Book Synopsis A Nonsimilar Moving Wall Boundary Layer Problem by : James Edward Danberg
Download or read book A Nonsimilar Moving Wall Boundary Layer Problem written by James Edward Danberg and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonsimilar moving wall stagnation point solution derived by Rott has been redefined so as to show that a second related solution exists. Rott's solution corresponds to a constant wall velocity with an external velocity proportional to the distance from the stagnation point. A counterpart solution corresponds to the case of a constant edge velocity proportional to the wall coordinate. Numerical and analytical solutions of the equations have defined the characteristics of the boundary layer including their integral properties.

Book Synopsis An Integral Analysis of Boundary Layers on Moving Walls by : Kevin S. Fansler
Download or read book An Integral Analysis of Boundary Layers on Moving Walls written by Kevin S. Fansler and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integral method for calculating the nonsimilar steady two-dimensional boundary-layer development on both upstream and downstream moving walls has been developed. Separation from moving walls is briefly reviewed and a separation criterion for the technique is developed that conforms with some accepted ideas on boundary-layer separation. The integral-momentum and integral-energy boundary-layer equations have been integrated simultaneously by using the shape factor relationships derived from moving-wall similarity solutions. The results are found to compare favorably with an exact solution and an approximate solution. The stability of the boundary-layer development calculations is also examined.

Book Synopsis Boundary Layer Flows - Advances in Experimentation, Modelling and Simulation by : Zambri Harun
Download or read book Boundary Layer Flows - Advances in Experimentation, Modelling and Simulation written by Zambri Harun and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2024-07-24 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid mechanics is a branch of physics with important applications in daily life. The calculation of flow drag on automobiles and high-speed trains benefits from theories in fluid mechanics. Moreover, many mechanical-based devices such as fluid pumps contribute to efficiency, and thus, to the modernization of society. This book highlights the experimental and theoretical aspects of wall-bounded flows to provide important information about related theories and applications. Boundary layer flow experimentation, modelling, and simulation must be considered together to obtain accurate calculations of parameters such as velocity profiles, pressure distribution, and turbulence level. This book is organized into three sections on the structure of the boundary layer, drag reduction initiatives using active control, and the verification and applications of flow mechanics. Chapters discuss the boundary layer type of different pressure gradients, Reynolds number, and speeds from 5 m/s to Mach 3. They also present the results of research on the active control technique for drag reduction initiatives to achieve efficient turbulence in high-speed applications, flow meter devices, and turbulence-generated noise mitigation initiatives.
Book Synopsis Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics by : John David Anderson
Download or read book Hypersonic and High Temperature Gas Dynamics written by John David Anderson and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a self-contained text for those students and readers interested in learning hypersonic flow and high-temperature gas dynamics. It assumes no prior familiarity with either subject on the part of the reader. If you have never studied hypersonic and/or high-temperature gas dynamics before, and if you have never worked extensively in the area, then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you have worked and/or are working in these areas, and you want a cohesive presentation of the fundamentals, a development of important theory and techniques, a discussion of the salient results with emphasis on the physical aspects, and a presentation of modern thinking in these areas, then this book is also for you. In other words, this book is designed for two roles: 1) as an effective classroom text that can be used with ease by the instructor, and understood with ease by the student; and 2) as a viable, professional working tool for engineers, scientists, and managers who have any contact in their jobs with hypersonic and/or high-temperature flow.
Download or read book Viscous Flows written by Ahmer Mehmood and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-22 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authored monograph provides a detailed discussion of the boundary layer flow due to a moving plate. The topical focus lies on the 2- and 3-dimensional case, considering axially symmetric and unsteady flows. The author derives a criterion for the self-similar and non-similar flow, and the turbulent flow due to a stretching or shrinking sheet is also discussed. The target audience primarily comprises research experts in the field of boundary layer flow, but the book will also be beneficial for graduate students.

Book Synopsis Investigation of Substructure Heating on Cracked Ablative Heat Shields by : Erhard M. Winkler
Download or read book Investigation of Substructure Heating on Cracked Ablative Heat Shields written by Erhard M. Winkler and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental program was carried out to study the effect of cracks in an ablative heat shield on the substructure heating. The test conditions involved stagnation pressures of 20 to 30 atmospheres, temperatures of 4000 to 9000R, and Mach numbers of 2.3 and 3. The models, made of teflon, has transverse and longitudinal cracks machined into the surface. They were instrumented for pressure, temperature, heat transfer and skin-friction measurements. The cracks were found to have pronounced effects on the ablative behavior. The heating is moderate under a laminar boundary layer, but can be catastrophic when the boundary layer is turbulent, depending upon the size and direction of the crack. The results for the transverse cracks were compared with an available analytical prediction. Ablation was found to reduce the wall shear stress by 40 percent or more. (Author).
