Jacobsen and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A preliminary "standard" data set for ethylene has been developed using an accurate thermodynamic property formulation from a manuscript recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data. This ethylene formulation will be used as the basis for a new international table of properties of ethylene to be published by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the NBS Office of Standard Reference Data. The experimental data which were considered in the development of the fundamental equation (equation of state) for ethylene are summarized. The calculated values and the correlating functions used to produce them are given here. Computer programs for the calculation of pressure, density, temperature, isochoric heat capacity, and velocity of sound, are given, and values of these properties are tabulated. The computer programs utilized in this work were developed for use on IBM-compatible personal computers with 256 K or larger memories and a minimum disk storage capability of two 360 K-byte floppy disks. The loci of these calculated data are illustrated on P-T coordinates. A similar preliminary "standard" data set is also given for carbon dioxide based upon a thermodynamic property formulation recently completed by Dr. J.F. Ely at NBS-Boulder. At the date of this report, the manuscript reporting the details of this correlation is being prepared for publication."--Leaf ii.

This model is based upon data within four percent above and 0.5 percent below the critical temperature, and within thirty percent of the critical density. (281 to 293 K at densities from 5.3 to 9.9 mol/l.) Constants for the calculation of density and other properties including enthalpy, internal energy, entropy, isochoric and isobaric heat capacity, and velocity of sound for this restricted range are given. Comparisons of selected property data are included, and a brief table of thermodynamic properties of ethylene near the critical state is given."--Page ii.

Book excerpt: As a basis for printed property charts and tables, empirical multiparameter equa tions of state have been the most important source of accurate thermodynamic property data for more than 30 years now. However, due to increasing demands on the accuracy of thermodynamic property data in computerised calculations as well as the availability of appropriate software tools, and the ever increasing computer power, such formulations are nowadays becoming a valuable tool for everyday work. This development has substantially increased the number of scientists, engi neers, and students who are working with empirical multiparameter equations of state, and it continues to do so. Nevertheless, common knowledge on this kind of thermodynamic property models and on the ongoing progress in this scientific discipline is still very limited. Multiparameter equations of state do not belong to the topics which are taught intensively in thermodynamic courses in engineering and natural sciences and the books and articles where they are published mainly deal with the thermodynamic properties of certain substances rather than with the theoretical background of the used equations of state. In contrast to this, my concern mainly was to give a survey of the theoretical background of multiparameter equations of state both with regard to their application and their development.

Book excerpt: International Thermodynamic Tables of the Fluid State - 7 Propylene (Propene) is a compilation of internationally agreed values of the equilibrium thermodynamic properties of propylene. This book is composed of three chapters, and begins with the presentation of experimental result of thermodynamic studies compared with the equations used to generate the tables. The succeeding chapter deals with correlating equations for thermodynamic property determination of propylene. The last chapter provides the tabulations of the propylene's thermodynamic properties and constants. This book will prove useful to physical chemists.

Book excerpt: Molecular simulation is an emerging technology for determining the properties of many systems that are of interest to the oil and gas industry, and more generally to the chemical industry. Based on a universally accepted theoretical background, molecular simulation accounts for the precise structure of molecules in evaluating their interactions. Taking advantage of the availability of powerful computers at moderate cost, molecular simulation is now providing reliable predictions in many cases where classical methods (such as equations of state or group contribution methods) have limited prediction capabilities. This is particularly useful for designing processes involving toxic components, extreme pressure conditions, or adsorption selectivity in microporous adsorbents. Molecular simulation moreover provides a detailed understanding of system behaviour. As illustrated by their award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers for the best overall performance at the Fluid Simulation Challenge 2004, the authors are recognized experts in Monte Carlo simulation techniques, which they use to address equilibrium properties. This book presents these techniques in sufficient detail for readers to understand how simulation works, and describes many applications for industrially relevant problems. The book is primarily dedicated to chemical engineers who are not yet conversant with molecular simulation techniques. In addition, specialists in molecular simulation will be interested in the large scope of applications presented (including fluid properties, fluid phase equilibria, adsorption in zeolites, etc.).Contents: 1. Introduction. 2. Basics of Molecular Simulation. 3. Fluid Phase Equilibria and Fluid Properties. 4. Adsorption. 5. Conclusion and Perspectives. Appendix
