Book excerpt: A clear standard atmosphere for determining attenuation in the visible region and infrared windows is defined. The derivation of the model is based on a Rayleigh atmoshpere with an aerosol component determined by recent sea-level and high-altitude measurements. The format of the model is a series of tabulations for 15 wavelengths from 0.4 to 4.0 microns with Rayleigh and aerosol parameters arrayed at kilometer intervals to an altitude of 30 kilometers. Horizontal, vertical, and slantpath transmission from sea level, transmission between two altitudes, and transmission to space are readily determined from the tabulations. (Author).

Book excerpt: -Remote multispectral photographic sensing of the earth's surface may be a feasible means of identifying and discriminating between inorganic terrestrial materials differing in composition or physical characteristics. Simultaneous airborne and ground-based photographic and photometric studies of such sites as Mono Craters, California, indicate that within the range of the photographic spectrum (2900 A to 14000 A), the most promising region for the geologist and other earth scientists could be the wavelengths outside the visible spectrum.

Download or read book Atmospheric Attenuation Model, 1964, in the Ultraviolet, Visible, and Infrared Regions for Altitudes to 50 Km written by L. Elterman and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model of a clear standard atmosphere, for determing attenuation in the ultraviolet, the visible, and the infrared windows, is derived. The derivation is based on a Rayleigh atmosphere combined with aerosol and ozone components. The format of the model is a series of tabulations for 22 wavelengths with Rayleigh, aerosol, and ozone components arrayed at kilometer intervals to an altitude of 50 kilometers. Exploratory calculations pertaining to horizontal, vertical, and slant-path transmission from sea level, transmission between two altitudes and transmission to space are readily made from the tabulations. Because of its more extensive coverage and improved computational programming, this report, including the tabulations, fully replaces the earlier publication, 'A Model of a Clear Standard Atmosphere for Attenuation in the Visible Region and IYNFRARED Windows, ' by this author.
