Download or read book A Personal Tao written by Casey Kochmer and published by Amberjack Software LLC. This book was released on 2005-09-01 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science is factReligion is faithMagic is perceptionKnow these boundaries to discover what lies beyond. What is the Tao? Don't ask. The Tao cannot be described, yet a person will express it simply by being alive. It is possible to list definitions from the dictionary, from various documents. Each definition: a set of words, echoes of reality. A common mistake is to think of the Tao as a state of mind, hence it can be touched through words. Tao is a state of existence and nonexistence, it's mental, spiritual, and physical states all blending together. Living to Tao will never be summarized in the mathematics of word play. Poetry, philosophy, literature all offer only helpful guidance but never the actual Tao. A simple analogy would be swimming under the water. It's possible to read about snorkeling or diving, but until diving under the water, feeling the pressure, experience seeing undersea life, having lungs squeeze outside-in yet feeling inside-out from pushing down as deeply as you can dive, only to resurface to feel a sudden gasp of wet air... all in 60 seconds of a run on sentence: it's an idea approximated by a reader but only grasped by the experiencer. When this last line was read by a friend of mine, she said: but when you snorkel the pressure doesnt feel like that. Surprised, I asked her if she ever dove to about 25 feet while snorkeling, she said no, at which moment we both realized how personal the experience becomes due to differences in the path taken. This example touches why discovering the Tao is a personal living experience. Why learn the Tao? Knowing of the Tao technically should not change anything. But it does, it's the same difference as: knowing yourself really shouldn't change who you are. Yet it does. It's the difference between, being yourself or the reflection in the mirror. When the answer is we are both, more and less..... The Tao is every contradiction, every truth and each of the standard circular Yoda Yoga mystical answer...leaving us with holding flowing water in a single hand. Try to grasp it, and its gone, yet our hands are wet. So accept the fact, we are each a contradiction, this is the truth being described when these mystical answers are bantered about: using one impossible statement to prove another impossible statement. The key for writing and reading this document comes down to a single reason: Words are never about the Tao, words are always about us. Sometimes to understand ourselves, we need to write aloud a personal truth as its human nature and hence the Tao to do so. The point becomes this: the Tao, itself isn't a path -- the path is living. Being human, living includes the experience of expression and introspection through words and speaking out. This is about discovering personal truth and how to flow with oneself. Yet learning is always a process of sharing. Reflections in this document become one possible outline out of many to help myself be... myself, while giving others a chance to comment and add their own personal style to the overall document. This then becomes a circular process between, author, reader and everyone involved to help define and discover a personal Tao.So....Move, tumble, stumble, spin poetry, swirl, dance: all this is about the Tao and us.
Download or read book Regeneration written by Jane Polden and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2002-01-09 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dramas of mid-life are dramas of abandonment and freedom, of highly charged sexual engagements in real time or in fantasy, and of sudden encounters with mortality and loss. The details are as varied as people's lives are diverse but similar themes reappear with unerring regularity over and over in mid-life. It is a time when everything - from the most fundamental questions of identity and meaning to the daily experience of our own bodies and sexuality - is thrown into upheaval, making mid-life transition for many people the most disturbing period since the onset of adolescence.Recognizing that many of us feel, sometimes very much to our surprise, that we have lost our way at mid-life, Polden explores compassionately and sensitively the origins and experiences of mid-life crisis. Regeneration is a fundamentally optimistic book that argues that, while deep-seated changes are often painful, there are great gains to be made at mid-life. By helping readers toward improved self-awareness and a better understanding of the demands and choices of mid-life, Regeneration shows how we can begin to lead lives more truly informed by the values that will serve us best in the second halves of our lives.

Book Synopsis Booming Into Mid-life by : Myna German-Schleifer
Download or read book Booming Into Mid-life written by Myna German-Schleifer and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 1998 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One moment your school-age son is engaged in a house sale, and everything is serene on a Sunday afternoon in the suburbs. The next morning, you awaken to a 6am phone call from a policeman, who tells you that a childless great-uncle has jumped from the roof, leaving your phone number for notification purposes. Shortly after that, you learn that your best friends are getting a divorce, and you don't know what to tell your children. Midlife brings chaos, laughter and tears. You find women in their 40's having 'last chance' babies, and many people changing careers while they still can. Couples, meanwhile, are fighting about whether to stay together, and many women who have been home are trying to jump-start their careers. Boyfriends, girlfriends, and 'last chance' affairs complicate matters even more. The author takes you with her on a search for order, trying to find patterns in the chaos, travelling the routes of the past, examining the lives of baby-boomer friends, while renewing an earlier commitment to journalism, which had lapsed during a ten-year stint in the business world.
Book Synopsis Astrology of Midlife and Aging by : Erin Sullivan
Download or read book Astrology of Midlife and Aging written by Erin Sullivan and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2005-05-19 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first in-depth analysis of how an individual's natal horoscope reveals the unique challenges and opportunities of midlife. Between the ages of thirty-seven and forty-one, something mysterious takes place within the psyche. Jung called this phase our "unlived life," assuming rightly that midlife did not inaugurate a time of rapid decay, loss of libido, and inevitable death—but rather ushered in a period in which one might review one's life and build upon a strong foundation toward the next phase of adulthood. Acclaimed astrologer Erin Sullivan takes us through the vast changes that astrology reveals as we reach middle age. It is a moment in life that is characterized by the planet Uranus, one filled with opportunities to both rethink the past and move forward toward the future, "witnessing" our lives in the way Uranus connotes. There exist no maps of the terrain—except the natal horoscope.

Book Synopsis Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, The by : O'Collins, Gerald, SJ
Download or read book Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, The written by O'Collins, Gerald, SJ and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book follows the structure of the Spiritual Exercises, commenting on major themes in what Ignatius calls the First Week, the Second Week, the Third Week, and the Fourth Week, ending with the Contemplation for Attaining Love. It engages the audience by introducing fresh reflections on the Principle and Foundation (to be read in the context of late medieval marriage vows), and by using, at length, several episodes in the Gospel stories (e.g. the nativity of Christ, the call to service of Peter’s mother-in-law, the particular approaches of the evangelists to Christ’s passion and death, and the place of Ch. 21 in John’s theology of love) to show how contemporary biblical interpretation enriches possibilities for prayer. Resources for prayer are drawn from Christian painting, sculpture, music, literature (e.g., Pascal and Kierkegaard) and poetry. The author explores links between the Exercises and the traditional practice of lectio divina. In doing this, he illustrates the scope of teaching on lectio divina coming from the Second Vatican Council and shows how translators and commentators have missed the Council’s use of the technical term lectio divina.
