Sara loves her father and she is heart-broken when he sends her to London in Victorian-era England for a formal education. At the fancy girl's boarding school, Sara is a star pupil of the haughty headmistress, Miss Minchin. When Captain Crewe dies penniless, Sara is left at the mercy of the jealous Miss Minchin who agrees to let her sleep in the attic and work at the school as a servant girl. Sara undergoes numerous trials as she humbly allows herself to be subjected to servitude, but with the help of several dear friends, she remains as proud and unwavering and imaginative as ever, proving to all that she is, as the title says, "a little princess." Then, thanks to one of her father's friends, the Crewe family fortune is recovered, and Sara is rescued from the flabbergasted Miss Minchin's cruelty.

From skipping stones and counting stars to climbing trees and telling stories, every moment is wrapped snugly in the certain warmth of a parent’s presence and God’s blessing. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I created The Global Purpose Approach to help people gain the interest, knowledge, and skills needed for them to become more global-minded individuals. The idea for the book evolved from the need to enhance instruction in multicultural education so that people may be more knowledgeable, respectful, and appreciative of the geographies, languages, and cultures of people across the globe. The principles, content, and strategies that result comprise The Global Purpose Approachan instructional framework to introduce and integrate multiculturalism in schools, classrooms, private corporations, public agencies, and individuals daily lives. The purpose of The Global Purpose Approach is to foster multicultural awareness and education by helping to understand, respect, and appreciate similarities and differences across cultures. It consists of six guiding principlespurpose, environment, observation, perspective, language, and exploration (PEOPLE)together with an outline (NO FEAR) and resources for interactive and immersive learning of the core elements of culture. The intended impact of The Global Purpose Approach is to develop people who have enhanced knowledge and appreciation of diverse cultures and who can, therefore, interact and contribute innovatively in an interconnected, global society. Human resource professionals, organizational leaders, school districts, and teachers may use this book as a guide to integrate multicultural education in their departments, organizations, school systems, and classrooms. It also allows for educators to easily adapt the approach to fit their curriculum requirements and existing teaching plans and to implement it within their daily teaching. In this way, The Global Purpose Approach can be seen as a way to strengthen current teaching practices by adopting a set of philosophies and utilizing activities to foster more globally connected, engaged citizens without the need to fully revise or change.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gathering architectural pieces from all over the world, the Paris Universal Exposition of 1867 introduced to fairgoers the notion of an imaginary journey, a new tourism en place. Through this and similar expositions, the world's cultures were imported to European and American cities as artifacts and presented to nineteenth-century men and women as the world in microcosm, giving a quick and seemingly realistic impression of distant places. elik examines the display of Islamic cultures at nineteenth-century world's fairs, focusing on the exposition architecture. She asserts that certain sociopolitical and cultural trends now crucial to our understanding of historical transformations in both the West and the world of Islam were mirrored in the fair's architecture. Furthermore, dominant attitudes toward cross-cultural exchanges were revealed repeatedly in Westerners' responses to these pavilions, in Western architects' interpretations of Islamic stylistic traditions, and in the pavilions' impact in such urban centers. Although the world's fairs claimed to be platforms for peaceful cultural communication, they displayed the world according to a hierarchy based on power relations. elik's delineation of this hierarchy in the exposition buildings enables us to understand both the adversarial relations between the West and the Middle East, and the issue of cultural self-definition for Muslim societies of the nineteenth century.
