In the letter, he describes his own appointment as minister in the town of Halifax, Massachusetts; his opinions on a wide range of clerical concerns, including his disapproval of celibacy among the clergy; the ostensible motivations of "degenerate" colonists for joining the Church of England; the state of disorder in New England among Congregationalists and Presbyterians; the newly established Hollis professorship at Harvard College; the growth of Calvinism and Arminianism; and other matters. This appears to be a draft copy, and not the actual letter sent to Cotton.
