A side note of historical and religious accuracy: Have you ever wondered if the myths of the ancients were based in fact? Have you ever wondered what the prehistoric pre-flood biblical world would look like in light of works such as the Book of Enoch and the Epic of Gilgamesh? As a religious studies major, I do not believe that this setting will be 100% accurate to what the biblical creation theory suggests, but all works herein are created with a sense of “What if?”. What if Thor and Zeus and these deities were actually the “Men of Great Renown” mentioned in Genesis Chapter 6. What if the Titans that battled and birthed the gods are these Nephilim mentioned in scripture and referred to as Titans by the Greeks. Creative license is obviously taken to create a fun campaign setting, but I hope this inspires all who play with a sense of wonder. What if this setting isn’t as fantastical as we think?

In other words, long-term developments and patterns in which the accumulated memory of what came earlier, can greatly (and sometimes subconsciously) influence subsequent policy choices. Working forward from the later seventeenth century, this book explores the ‘deep history’ of the changing and competing understandings within the Tory party of the role Britain has aspired to play on a world stage. Conservatism has long been one of the major British political tendencies, committed to the defence of established institutions, with a strong sense of the ‘national interest’, and embracing both ‘liberal’ and ‘authoritarian’ views of empire. The Tory party has, moreover, at several times been deeply divided, if not convulsed, by different perspectives on Britain’s international orientation and different positions on foreign and imperial policy. Underlying Tory beliefs upon which views of Britain’s global role were built were often not stated but assumed. As a result they tend to be obscured from historical view. This book seeks to recover and reconsider those beliefs, and to understand how the Tory party has sought to navigate its way through the difficult pathways of foreign and imperial politics, and why this determination outlasted Britain’s rapid decolonisation and was apparently remarkably little affected by it. Joyce traces this curse from the myths in Genesis to the primal horde, the first social organization of humans, to the Oedipal Complex and to nation state warfare such as the Battle of Waterloo. In a groundbreaking presentation, Anderson deciphers word by word the first two chapters and part of the last chapter to show how this key opens the lock. He shows, for example, how the joined ending and beginning of Joyce s wisdom book form the Hebrew word for curse and the ending shows confrontation rather than repression of fear of death as the key to life, to your own wake.
