This book was released on 2016-09-17 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Laboratory Outlines in Physical Chemistry Completion of the work of this course entitles the student to three hours of University credit per term, two of which are given for experiments performed satisfactorily in the laboratory and one for written reports based upon these experiments. The following Laboratory Outlines describe the work to be accomplished during the year, though certain of the experiments may be omitted at the discretion of the Professor in charge. No work of a similar nature done elsewhere at another college or university is required to be repeated, provided the work be submitted to the Professor in charge for his approval. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Outline of College Chemistry In the effort to make misapprehensions and mistakes as nearly impossible as may be, the directions have been entirely rewritten, and in many cases have been amplified, and a num ber of the experiments have been modified. An entirely new set of figures has also been drawn. To render the exercises more instructive, and still further to discourage mechanical work, a larger number of questions has been inserted. With the same end in view, data in regard to solubility have been introduced (appendix) as a new feature, and their use in explaining chemical phenomena has been illustrated in many experiments. The rationalizing value of using the conceptions of chemical dynamics, the electromotive series, and the degrees of ioniza tion has been emphasized by more frequent references. Some of the formal quantitative experiments have been modified, and the directions have been made clearer. The value of these experiments has been found to lie chie y in the basis they give for clear understanding of the difficult subject of combining, atomic, and molecular weights. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Laboratory Manual of Organic Chemistry for Medical Students Each student is expected to record his own observa tions, and for this reason alternate pages of the manual have been left blank. To induce the student to correlate the facts observed in the laboratory with the theoretical matter taught in the lecture room and in the text - books, the experiments are accompanied with questions which the student is sup posed to answer. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Household Chemistry for Girls: A Laboratory Guide To outline a strong course in chemistry, especially suited to girls of high school age, is the purpose of this book. Sev eral years' experience in developing this course has strength ened the author's conviction that it is better in every way to give girls special work in chemistry rather than to make their study identical with that for boys. In the Los Angeles High School, where this plan has been followed for some time, it has brought about a gratifying increase in the number of girls studying chemistry. But it was with no intention of weakening the course or of presenting to girls merely the pyrotechnics of chemistry that the differentiation has been made. On the contrary, the same standard of thoroughness has been maintained for both boys and girls, with the result that full credit has been granted by the authorities of the University of California for the year's work in household chemistry. Download or read book Organic Chemistry written by Robert Engel and published by Cognella Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2018-07-24 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Chemistry begins by addressing an issue of fundamental importance - the structure of organic molecules. With this as a foundation the book then uses interactive review of materials, in conjunction with very structured guidance, to help students progress through increasingly challenging topics within the discipline. Over the course of thirty one chapters students learn about organic compounds, the structure and reactions of carbon-carbon doubly bonded systems, and the polarity of carbon-halogen and carbon-metal bonds. They study alkanes and cycloalkanes, physical methods of structural elucidation, nuclear magnetic resonance, and infrared spectrometry. They become familiar with carboxylic acids and their compounds, heterocyclic compounds, synthetic polymers, and more. The material supports students in mastering the content by providing clear explanations and real problems that require thinking beyond memorization. Written for courses in chemistry and organic chemistry, Organic Chemistry is well-suited to a two-semester program for majors, as well as students in a pre-health professions track. It is an excellent companion text for classes that include a laboratory component and manual.
