Download or read book Photonic MEMS Devices written by Ai-Qun Liu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-08 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photonic MEMS devices represent the next major breakthrough in the silicon revolution. While many quality resources exist on the optic and photonic aspect of device physics, today’s researchers are in need of a reference that goes beyond to include all aspects of engineering innovation. An extension on traditional design and analysis, Photonic MEMS Devices: Design, Fabrication, and Control describes a broad range of optical and photonic devices, from MEMS optical switches and bandgap crystal switches to optical variable attenuators (VOA) and injection locked tunable lasers. It deals rigorously with all these technologies at a fundamental level, systematically introducing critical nomenclature. Each chapter also provides analysis techniques, equations, and experimental results. The book focuses not only on traditional design analysis, but also provides extensive background on realistic simulation and fabrication processes. With a clear attention to experimental relevance, this book provides the fundamental knowledge needed to take the next-step in integrating photonic MEMS devices into commercial products and technology.

Book Synopsis Limit State Design of Steel Structures by : Ramchandra
Download or read book Limit State Design of Steel Structures written by Ramchandra and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2017-09-01 with total page 1088 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Method of Limit State (Ultimate Limit State, (ULS) and serviceability limit state (SLS)) present an improved design philosophy and makes allow-ance for the short-compings of working stress method (conventional and long time used in practice). This method provides basic framework, within which the performance of the steel structures may be assessed against various limiting conditions and invo-lves some concept of probability. Object of limit design method is to get steel structure that will remain fit for use during its life with acceptable target reliability. The probability of a limit state being reached during its life time is kept very small. This method has been broadly adopted in many developed countries and based on the recommendations of IS: 800-2007 (Third Revised Edition). This method has been covered in nine parts (in twenty six chapters and four appendices) as listed in contents. After introducing `Limit State Method of Design of Concrete Structures (LSD: CC) in IS: 456-1978, it was natural for Bureau of Indian Standard to introduce `Limit State Design of Steel Structures (LSD: SS). SI units for text for complete book, uncertainties involved in the working stress method and the concept of partial safety factors for the loads and strength of mate-rials (for yield and ultimate stresses reached) are the special feature of the book. Concepts of shear centre for thin-walled beam cross-sections and unsymmetrical bending of beams are important for various requirements and have been included in appendices. The text of book has been covered in about 1000 pages and 550 diagrams. The texts of various topics has been explained in many illustrative worked-out examples.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Electrocatalyst Materials and Interfacial Characterization by : Nicolas Alonso-Vante
Download or read book Fundamentals of Electrocatalyst Materials and Interfacial Characterization written by Nicolas Alonso-Vante and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-26 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses some essential topics in the science of energy converting devices emphasizing recent aspects of nano-derived materials in the application for the protection of the environment, storage, and energy conversion. The aim, therefore, is to provide the basic background knowledge. The electron transfer process and structure of the electric double layer and the interaction of species with surfaces and the interaction, reinforced by DFT theory for the current and incoming generation of fuel cell scientists to study the interaction of the catalytic centers with their supports. The chief focus of the chapters is on materials based on precious and non-precious centers for the hydrogen electrode, the oxygen electrode, energy storage, and in remediation applications, where the common issue is the rate-determining step in multi-electron charge transfer processes in electrocatalysis. These approaches are used in a large extent in science and technology, so that each chapter demonstrates the connection of electrochemistry, in addition to chemistry, with different areas, namely, surface science, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and chemical physics.
Book Synopsis The Standard Model and Beyond by : Paul Langacker
Download or read book The Standard Model and Beyond written by Paul Langacker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 884 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of The Standard Model and Beyond presents an advanced introduction to the physics and formalism of the standard model and other non-abelian gauge theories. It provides a solid background for understanding supersymmetry, string theory, extra dimensions, dynamical symmetry breaking, and cosmology. In addition to updating all of the experimental and phenomenological results from the first edition, it contains a new chapter on collider physics; expanded discussions of Higgs, neutrino, and dark matter physics; and many new problems. The book first reviews calculational techniques in field theory and the status of quantum electrodynamics. It then focuses on global and local symmetries and the construction of non-abelian gauge theories. The structure and tests of quantum chromodynamics, collider physics, the electroweak interactions and theory, and the physics of neutrino mass and mixing are thoroughly explored. The final chapter discusses the motivations for extending the standard model and examines supersymmetry, extended gauge groups, and grand unification. Thoroughly covering gauge field theories, symmetries, and topics beyond the standard model, this text equips readers with the tools to understand the structure and phenomenological consequences of the standard model, to construct extensions, and to perform calculations at tree level. It establishes the necessary background for readers to carry out more advanced research in particle physics. Supplementary materials are provided on the author’s website and a solutions manual is available for qualifying instructors.

Book Synopsis Justified Modeling Frameworks and Novel Interpretations of Ecological and Epidemiological Systems by : Bapan Ghosh
Download or read book Justified Modeling Frameworks and Novel Interpretations of Ecological and Epidemiological Systems written by Bapan Ghosh and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-01-12 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lotka-Volterra and the Kermack-McKendrick models are well celebrated and widely recognized in the field of ecology and epidemiology. Several modified ordinary differential equation models have been proposed over the last many decades to rationalize complex biological phenomena. In the current century, researchers have paid much attention to developing new modeling frameworks with delay differential equations, difference equations, fractional order systems, stochastic differential equations, etc. No doubt, these models have emerged many new bifurcations theory and methods which have equally contributed to the advances of Mathematics and interdisciplinary research. It is argued that these new modeling frameworks perform more effectively in analyzing and interpreting results compared to the conventional modeling frameworks with ordinary differential equations. However, implications of emerged bifurcations from new modeling approaches are often less interpreted from a biological viewpoint. Even, there is also a lack of understanding of how a fractional order model, for instance, displays a more realistic scenario to analyze a biological process. Therefore, a more serious justification is essential while modeling any biological event.
