It was intended to link a (haft on one {hore of the Thames, ' with a {team-engine, &c. And to continue the fame to afufiicient'dif'tanoc, at which to begin the tunnel in oppofite directions, riling to the fhoreof the river one way, and to a point fuificiently inland the other way, for a regular and proper afcent for carriages. This, like many other projects of the prefent'day, was undertaken by needy ad venturers on the one part, and by rich fpeculators on the other, without fuﬂicient examination, and has likewife mifcarried.
