This book was released on 2023-06-16 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Routledge Readings on Northeastern India: Colonial Encounters, Customary Practices, Gender, Livelihoods presents some of the finest essays on a region that stretches across the Northeastern Himalaya, eight Indian States and many tribal and non-tribal peoples. With a lucid new Introduction, it covers a vast range of issues and offers a compelling guide to understanding the northeastern India, from colonial and missionary encounter to contemporary security and developmental issues in South Asia. The book covers several critical themes and unravels the complexities fraught by the unique biogeography and socio-political history of the region. The fifteen chapters in the volume, divided into three sections, examine gender, community: customary law and practices, land, agriculture, livelihoods, work, health, and education. This multi-disciplinary volume interweaves geography and history, culture and politics; the contested construction of identities, communities and nationalities; the political interplay of ethnicities and resource appropriation in a modernizing, globalizing economy; conflicts and violence in highly-militarized spaces. It includes engaged and insightful perspectives from major authors who have contributed to the academic and/or policy discourse of the subject. Routledge Readings on Northeastern India brings together a cluster of key readings to capture important research directions, policy suggestions, current trends, and aspects of history and future trajectories in the humanities and social sciences. It will serve as essential reading for students, scholars, policymakers, practitioners and the general reader interested in a nuanced understanding of India’s northeastern region, and especially those in South Asian studies, Northeast India studies, area studies, history, politics and international relations, labour studies, conflict and peace studies, gender studies, sociology and social anthropology. It will also appeal to those interested in public administration, development studies, environmental studies, law and human rights, regional literature, cultural studies, population studies, geography, and economics.

Book excerpt: This book explores the identity, context and features of Pentecostalism in Rajasthan, India as well as the internal and external issues facing Pentecostals. It argues for an indigenous origin of Pentecostalism in Rajasthan, as it is a product of local Spirit revivals in the existing churches and the missionary activities of Indian Pentecostals. It also reveals that both the intra-church as well as extra-church issues place Pentecostals in a 'missio-ethical dilemma.' The book aims to suggest 'a contextual missiology of the Spirit,' as a new model of contextual missiology from a Pentecostal perspective. It is presented as a glocal, ecumenical, transformational, and public missiology.

Book Synopsis Baptist Ecclesiology in Mizoram and Nagaland by :
Download or read book Baptist Ecclesiology in Mizoram and Nagaland written by and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of the research is to give historical enquiry on Indian Baptists’ understanding of the three significant Baptist distinctive teachings including Local church autonomy, Separation of church and state, and believer’s baptism. It examines how these principles have hindered Indian Baptist churches from active participation in the history of vibrant ecumenical movement in the country. The study also enquires the socio-political milieu in which these principles developed in course of Baptist history worldwide and how the concepts are understood by Baptist communities around the world. Further, it broaches new avenues for sound understanding of the three selected tenets of faith in Indian context in light of developments in contemporary Baptist theology. Due to the vastness of the country and scattered presence of Baptist churches, it is difficult to describe all of them in detail. Hence, the study gives special reference to Baptist churches in Mizoram and Nagaland states of Northeast India where Baptist churches form significant communities and produce important literature for evaluation. Comparison on the practice of Baptist faith and ministry in these two Baptist communities is made when necessary. However, the study rereads the history of Baptist churches in India at large while the theological and ministerial differences are also maintained when relevant. It aims at promoting fuller participation of Indian Baptist churches in ecumenical movement and recommendations made in the last chapter are also meant for all Baptist communities around the country. The research has found out that the Indian Baptist ecclesiology needs to be reconciled with contemporary development in Baptist theological interpretation at the wider level. Analysing the way Baptists in Northeast India practice their faith, the study brought forward some important themes and concepts for Baptist communities in both Mizoram and Nagaland.
