Book Synopsis Structure and Geometry of Lie Groups by : Joachim Hilgert
Download or read book Structure and Geometry of Lie Groups written by Joachim Hilgert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-06 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained text is an excellent introduction to Lie groups and their actions on manifolds. The authors start with an elementary discussion of matrix groups, followed by chapters devoted to the basic structure and representation theory of finite dimensinal Lie algebras. They then turn to global issues, demonstrating the key issue of the interplay between differential geometry and Lie theory. Special emphasis is placed on homogeneous spaces and invariant geometric structures. The last section of the book is dedicated to the structure theory of Lie groups. Particularly, they focus on maximal compact subgroups, dense subgroups, complex structures, and linearity. This text is accessible to a broad range of mathematicians and graduate students; it will be useful both as a graduate textbook and as a research reference.

Book Synopsis A Guide to Quantum Groups by : Vyjayanthi Chari
Download or read book A Guide to Quantum Groups written by Vyjayanthi Chari and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-07-27 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since they first arose in the 1970s and early 1980s, quantum groups have proved to be of great interest to mathematicians and theoretical physicists. The theory of quantum groups is now well established as a fascinating chapter of representation theory, and has thrown new light on many different topics, notably low-dimensional topology and conformal field theory. The goal of this book is to give a comprehensive view of quantum groups and their applications. The authors build on a self-contained account of the foundations of the subject and go on to treat the more advanced aspects concisely and with detailed references to the literature. Thus this book can serve both as an introduction for the newcomer, and as a guide for the more experienced reader. All who have an interest in the subject will welcome this unique treatment of quantum groups.

This book was released on 2004-02-17 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The lectures that comprise this volume constitute a comprehensive survey of the many and various aspects of integrable dynamical systems. The present edition is a streamlined, revised and updated version of a 1997 set of notes that was published as Lecture Notes in Physics, Volume 495. This volume will be complemented by a companion book dedicated to discrete integrable systems. Both volumes address primarily graduate students and nonspecialist researchers but will also benefit lecturers looking for suitable material for advanced courses and researchers interested in specific topics.
Book Synopsis Geometric Possibility by : Gordon Belot

Book excerpt: Relationalism seeks to ground all claims about the structure of space in facts about actual and possible configurations of matter. Gordon Belot elucidates the prospects for this view of the nature of space by investigating the key notion of geometric possibility in relation to philosophical notions of physical possibility.

Book Synopsis Geometric Models for Noncommutative Algebras by : Ana Cannas da Silva
Download or read book Geometric Models for Noncommutative Algebras written by Ana Cannas da Silva and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1999 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume is based on a course, ``Geometric Models for Noncommutative Algebras'' taught by Professor Weinstein at Berkeley. Noncommutative geometry is the study of noncommutative algebras as if they were algebras of functions on spaces, for example, the commutative algebras associated to affine algebraic varieties, differentiable manifolds, topological spaces, and measure spaces. In this work, the authors discuss several types of geometric objects (in the usual sense of sets with structure) that are closely related to noncommutative algebras. Central to the discussion are symplectic and Poisson manifolds, which arise when noncommutative algebras are obtained by deforming commutative algebras. The authors also give a detailed study of groupoids (whose role in noncommutative geometry has been stressed by Connes) as well as of Lie algebroids, the infinitesimal approximations to differentiable groupoids. Featured are many interesting examples, applications, and exercises. The book starts with basic definitions and builds to (still) open questions. It is suitable for use as a graduate text. An extensive bibliography and index are included.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Compact Lie Groups by : Howard D. Fegan
Download or read book Introduction to Compact Lie Groups written by Howard D. Fegan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 1991 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two approaches to compact lie groups: by computation as matrices or theoretically as manifolds with a group structure. The great appeal of this book is the blending of these two approaches. The theoretical results are illustrated by computations and the theory provides a commentary on the computational work. Indeed, there are extensive computations of the structure and representation theory for the classical groups SU(n), SO(n) and Sp(n). A second exciting feature is that the differential geometry of a compact Lie group, both the classical curvature studies and the more recent heat equation methods, are treated. A large number of formulas for the connection and curvature are conveniently gathered together. This book provides an excellent text for a first course in compact Lie groups.
