Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fair Housing Act Design Manual: A Manual to Assist Designers and Builders in Meeting the Accessibility Requirements of The Fair Housing Act provides clear and helpful guidance about ways to design and construct housing which complies with the Fair Housing Act. The manual provides direct information about the accessibility requirements of the Act, which must be incorporated into the design, and construction of multifamily housing covered by the Act. It carries out two statutory responsibilities: (1) to provide clear statement of HUD's interpretation of the accessibility requirements of the Act so that readers may know what actions on their part will provide them with a "safe harbor"; and (2) to provide guidance in the form of recommendations which, although not binding meet the Department's obligation to provide technical assistance on alternative accessibility approaches which will comply with the Act, but may exceed its minimal requirements. The latter information allows housing providers to choose among alternative and also provides persons with disabilities with information on accessible design approaches. The Manual clarifies what are requirements under the Act and what are HUD's technical assistance recommendations. The portions describing the requirements are clearly differentiated from the technical assistance recommendations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Landlord’s Guide to Minnesota Law addresses every landlord-tenant legal issue that is likely to arise over the course of a lease. From how to find a tenant to what to do once they leave, it is a practical and thorough legal analysis of what Minnesota landlords need to know about complying with the relevant federal, state and local laws. At the end of each chapter you’ll find “Tips from a Tenant Attorney.” These tips offer more creative advice on how landlords can solve difficult legal situations or prevent them from ever occurring. Also included is our exclusive line-by-line analysis of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Model Residential Lease. Instead of guessing what your lease terms mean, this guide tells you why each term exists and how it applies to your situation. This book was written by practicing attorneys in Minnesota who work exclusively in landlord-tenant law. There are dozens of legal guides available online for landlords, but none of them focus on Minnesota statutes and regulations, and when it comes to landlord-tenant legal issues, state law is key. Both authors are currently practicing attorneys with over 25 years of experience in tenant landlord law, advising over 39,000 renters on HOME Line’s tenant hotline. They also train a wide variety of audiences in tenant landlord law, including over 100 trainings to landlord groups throughout Minnesota.

But every journey starts somewhere, and this book will help with your first application/allocation/closing/property--whichever role brings you to this industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2015 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule was the most significant federal effort to increase equality of access to place-based resources and opportunities, such as high-performing schools or access to jobs, since the 1968 Fair Housing Act. However, in an effort to appeal to suburban voters, the Trump administration repealed the rule in 2020, leaving its future in doubt. Furthering Fair Housing analyzes multiple dimensions of this rule, identifying failures of past efforts to increase housing choice, exploring how the AFFH Rule was crafted, measuring the initial effects of the rule before its rescission, and examining its interaction with other contemporary housing issues, such as affordability, gentrification, anti-displacement, and zoning policies. The editors and contributors to this volume—a mix of civil rights advocates, policymakers, and public officials—provide critical perspectives and identify promising new directions for future policies and practices. Placing the history of fair housing in the context of the centuries-long struggle for racial equity, Furthering Fair Housing shows how this policy can be revived and enhanced to advance racial equity in America’s neighborhoods.
