Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are two roads to take on this journey called Life. The right way, which is summed up at times as “The Good Life.” On the other hand, some people take a left which is “The Street Life.” A lot of young niggas take this route not always because they want to, but because that’s the only road in the middle of nowhere. America was built on the same. Come ups that are considered crimes today. Fraud, Robbery, Murder and Grand larceny. The problem is the youth is more up front with the truth, too much exposure can effect an entire generation. That can make life crazy. The unbelievable is always reality. The unpredictable is always anticipated. Funny thing is only a selected few realize what they see is only an illusion, what they need is always confused with what they want. Priority is always confused with “I’ll do it eventually.” If only we could see are mistakes for what they are. No one is perfect, Do to our creator, but if there was a such thing as an equal perfect would the world still be kaotic with envy and hatred? Of course, nothing has changed. It’s still a war being waged amongst one another everyday. Individuals don’t think individually they let others control their mind because they are weak minded. They are controlled, by people around them, almost like a child that depends on you to feed them whatever you give them, they are trusting you to give them something to fulfill their hunger. They eat it without question or suspicion just like the people that you surround yourself with. They feed you whatever they think you mind will eat. If you let them, they will feed you whatever they went. Whether its lies, the truth, or entertainment; whatever to fulfill the satisfaction of acceptance.

My aunt had a habit of doing the opposite of everything we asked her to do. Her stubbornness could really work my patience. Just when I thought she had pushed me to my limit and I didn’t know how much more I could take, she would look at me out of the blue and say, “Everything’s all right.” Since her passing, I have learned to take comfort in these words. She usually spoke them in the midst of what seemed to me like pure chaos. Yet she was able to find some semblance of tranquility. From Pieces to Peace describes my journey to figuring out for myself that no matter how chaotic things around me may seem, everything is truly, always all right.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best columns by the Pulitzer Prize–winning Chicago Tribune writer, on diverse topics like family, loss, mental health, advice, and the Windy City. Over the last two decades, Mary Schmich’s biweekly column in the Chicago Tribune has offered advice, humor, and discerning commentary on a broad array of topics including family, milestones, mental illness, writing, and life in Chicago. Schmich won the 2012 Pulitzer for Commentary for “her wide range of down-to-earth columns that reflect the character and capture the culture of her famed city.” This second edition—updated to include Schmich’s best pieces since its original publication—collects her ten Pulitzer-winning columns along with more than 150 others, creating a compelling collection that reflects Schmich’s thoughtful and insightful sensibility. The book is divided into thirteen sections, with topics focused on loss and survival, relationships, Chicago, travel, holidays, reading and writing, and more. Schmich’s 1997 “Wear Sunscreen” column (which has had a life of its own as a falsely attributed Kurt Vonnegut commencement speech) is included, as well as her columns focusing on the demolition of Chicago’s infamous Cabrini-Green housing project. One of the most moving sections is her twelve-part series with U.S. District Judge Joan Lefkow, as the latter reflected on rebuilding her life after the horrific murders of her mother and husband. Schmich’s columns are both universal and deeply personal. The first section of this book is dedicated to columns about her mother, and her stories of coping with her mother’s aging and eventual death. Throughout the book, Schmich reflects wisely and wryly on the world we live in, and her fond observances of Chicago life bring the city in all its varied character to warm, vivid life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My husband is loving, caring, strong, brave, loyal, and devoted to what he believes in. I admire him more than anybody because he inspires me so much. He brings out the best in me and he makes me better. If I can’t do it I know he can and will, and if he can’t he won’t stop trying. My husband has been through so much in just twenty seven years, things most people will never have to experience, he has been through and more. Poverty, hunger, loss of loved ones at a very young age, and yet he is still so happy. Optimism is his middle name, the glass is always half full in his eyes. He forgives so easily so he does not carry around the burden of anger like others do. The second to youngest out of eleven kids, he never got the attention he deserved but he didn’t let that make him feel less than. I admire my husband because what most men can’t do he does with ease. Like loving me and treating me like a queen as he does the other women in his life. He has such a great respect for us it deserves admiration. Religion Is a thing very near and dear to us my husband’s religious devotion is something to be reckoned with. His belief system is so strong and unshakeable he makes it easy for me to follow in his footsteps. Most people in and out of my religion have it all wrong, watching others practice my religion you might hate it, but watching my husband you would fall in love. When the going gets tough my husband is there, for me and anyone who needs him. Almost completely selfless you can’t help but to love him. A shoulder to cry on, and ear to listen, and an embrace waiting for you if you need it, he is the one to go to in any given situation. If you don’t want to be judged or looked down on. He can be counted on every single time. Marrying him, I would definitely have to say was the best decision I have made in my twenty Years on this earth. I don’t how I got this far without him. I’m just happy I’ll never have to go another day without him insha’allah(if god wills). Never afraid to admit when he is wrong makes it easy for you to let down your guard with him. I admire my husband because he is everything I stated and more, and respect is given where respect is due. That’s what my ex-wife wrote about me shortly before we went our separate ways that was the nicest thing some-one has ever said about me and I didn’t want to explain myself because I would have been a lot more humble This book is dedicated to my ex-wife who help me become the man I am today
