Book Synopsis A Generous Orthodoxy by : Brian D. McLaren
Download or read book A Generous Orthodoxy written by Brian D. McLaren and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-18 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A confession and manifesto from a senior leader in the emerging church movement. A Generous Orthodoxy calls for a radical, Christ-centered orthodoxy of faith and practice in a missional, generous spirit. Brian McLaren argues for a post-liberal, post-conservative, post-protestant convergence, which will stimulate lively interest and global conversation among thoughtful Christians from all traditions. In a sweeping exploration of belief, author Brian McLaren takes us across the landscape of faith, envisioning an orthodoxy that aims for Jesus, is driven by love, and is defined by missional intent. A Generous Orthodoxy rediscovers the mysterious and compelling ways that Jesus can be embraced across the entire Christian horizon. Rather than establishing what is and is not “orthodox,” McLaren walks through the many traditions of faith, bringing to the center a way of life that draws us closer to Christ and to each other. Whether you find yourself inside, outside, or somewhere on the fringe of Christianity, A Generous Orthodoxy draws you toward a way of living that looks beyond the “us/them” paradigm to the blessed and ancient paradox of “we.”
Book Synopsis Preaching Re-Imagined by : Doug Pagitt
Download or read book Preaching Re-Imagined written by Doug Pagitt and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2009-05-18 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine for a moment...that you can forget almost everything you've ever read, ever heard, ever been taught about preaching. Somehow, everything is new; nothing is impossible. Imagine if----with the Holy Spirit's working----missional communities could be formed, vibrant stories would be told and retold for generations, in new and ever vivid manners of communication. emergentYS author and pastor Doug Pagitt offers an invitation to the kind of preaching that 'creates followers of God who serve the world well and live the invitation to the rhythm of God.' He introduces you to an approach to engaging with the Bible with a focus on three questions: * What kind of communities are we forming? (Sociology) * What story are we telling? (Theology) * How can we tell it more effectively? (Communication) These questions are engaged through the introduction of Progressional Implicatory Preaching. This insightful combination of both theory and practical advice will open the floodgates of your imagination to once again dream big dreams for your church. Envision Preaching beyond speechmaking as an agent in the creation of Christian communities and take a hopeful look toward new approaches to encouraging the spiritual formation of your church body. Includes study/discussion questions.
Book Synopsis Mission America: A Wesleyan Perspective by : María Carrillo Díaz
Download or read book Mission America: A Wesleyan Perspective written by María Carrillo Díaz and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-12-07 with total page 107 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In case you haven't noticed, the American cultural landscape has changed. The Church in America is no longer the center of community life, and in many cases is in rapid decline. How did we get here? More importantly, what is it going to take to get us where we need to be? America is a mission field! In MISSION AMERICA, Keith Tilley explores the current postmodern, post-everything situation in 21st century America, and identifies what it will take to mobilize the Church of Jesus Christ into a missional position again. Cultures constantly change. It is vital that church leaders of every generation strive to mobilize missionaries who discover, declare and demonstrate the Kingdom of God in relevant ways. The unfinished business of the reformation is the doctrine of the priesthood of all believers. Writing from a unique Wesleyan perspective, Keith shares a vital heritage that contributed to the Great Awakening, and a global perspective on world missions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Progress in Hormone Research: Volume II is a collection of papers presented at the proceedings of the 1946 Laurentian Hormone Conference, held in St. Adele-on-High. This volume is organized into five parts encompassing 14 chapters that explore the methods of hormone analysis, the pituitary and metabolic hormones, and the clinical aspects of endocrinology. The first part discusses some applications of both ultraviolet and infrared absorption spectroscopy to the problem of the elucidation of the structure of sterol compounds. The subsequent parts cover the humoral or nervous factors, which determine the level of functional activity of the pituitary-adrenal system, as well as the mechanism of androgen and estrogen hormone metabolism. These topics are followed by discussions on the hormonal influences on the pancreatic function and the action of the thyroid hormones on diabetes. The concluding part examines the various types of testicular and ovarian deficiency and some related phenomena from the clinical standpoint. This part also explores the genetic and endocrine factors in the growth and development of childhood and adolescence. This book will prove useful to endocrinologists and developmental biologists.
