"BOOK DESCRIPTION:This book with its genealogical charts and notes in journal format begins in Obersch�nau, Thuringa, Germany where Thomas Fischer, was born in 1640 and lived prior to migrating south, to Gondelsheim, Baden (now Baden-W�rttemberg) in circa 1698 at the age of 58. Not much is known about Thomas Fischer's life in Obersch�nau. It is believed that he was an Innkeeper in Obersch�nau because that is what his profession was in Gondelsheim. In Gondelsheim, the Fischer's lived, worked, farmed, were blacksmiths and held the office of Mayor, Judge, Church Elder and Innkeeper from 1700 to 1818. In 1818, after several years of famine, some of Thomas Fischer's descendants left Gondelsheim, Germany, at 8:00 A.M., Tuesday, 14 July, for South Russia (now southeast Ukraine) over the Polish route and became known as the Black Sea Germans. They were first in the German Colonies of Stuttgart and Waterloo, which were located 65 miles north of Odessa. They and all the other inhabitants had to abandon those colonies for the lack of water. Around 1830, they re-settled in the colony of G�ldendorf, which was newly created 60 miles south for the inhabitants of the abandoned colonies. In the 1840's, they left G�ldendorf and moved to the German Colony of Friedenstal, Bessarabia, Russia (Now Myrnopillya, Odessa, Ukraine). Then in 1884, Gottlieb Fischer and family left for the United States of America and ended up in Scotland, South Dakota when it was still called "The Dakota Territory." Note: Great Grandpa with family settled first in Scotland, SD, just 8 years after "Custer's Last Stand."This book with its 245 pages, contains 1,639 individuals, 552 marriages, 16 generations, 452 surnames and 15,658 text records way exceeds the 80 pages of the 1998 first edition book. You will find this book divided into seven chapters; genealogy charts, family group sheets, an ancestral chart, villages and towns where the Fischer's lived, Fischer profile, Fischer photos, Fischer records, source references and endnotes. This book provides the most current known information, with numerous updates, additional family members and source information that was not included in the first edition. The publication of this book is to assist Fischer family members and researchers alike in finding their ancestors and to provide known sources of documentation. The family history, genealogical charts, source information, pictures and copies of records found in this book was researched, compiled and edited by myself with editing assistance and information from Curt Renz, based on my own research and input from others mentioned throughout the book. Note: On the find-a-grave (FAG) online internet site, I have personally created and linked online grave memorials of the descendants of Thomas Fischer that can be found by going to the FAG site and doing a search.
