Fortunately (or so he thought at first) Charlie read the article, discovered a copy of "Flowers along the path" buried on his dusty shelves, and proceeded to hide it. But as the action of this quiet comedy moves to its tanatalizing conclusion, Charlie must sorrowfully contemplate the greed of a number of unique customers in quest of this valuable book. There's May Reilly, a completely unimaginative "cousin," who suddenly develops a taste for nature poetry. Brash Bo Henderson and pretty Diane Thorpe do a lively turn as a pair of college students who stage the murder scene from Macbeth to convince the bookseller of their impartial love for great literary art. Not the least unusaul is humorously gusty Mr. Semple, who poses as a very old friend of the poetess whose book he seeks. But most potent of all proves the wistful charm of young Betty Mason, the high school girl who--unlike Charlie's other customers--possesses a deep and genuine identification with poetry for its own true sake. It is her "cup" that seems eventually filled with the ultimate "kindness."
