Book Synopsis A Crack in the Ceiling by : Brenda A. Gates Holt
Download or read book A Crack in the Ceiling written by Brenda A. Gates Holt and published by LifeRich Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-20 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if you secretly felt like God shortchanged you in some way or another and all your turns were predestined to be crooked ones? People around you talk about their purpose, passion, and giftedness, and you have yet to fill in the blanks. Maybe you grew up in an adverse environment that mangled and muddied your hopes and dreams. Perhaps you earnestly intended to break loose and break free but were too afraid to get out of the cage because a lion was guarding the door, and now lurking fears have immobilized you. Yes, you pray, attend church services, give, and do other things that may count as good stuff, but there is no fire in your bones, no passion in your praying, or peace in your soul; and that once upon a time inexplicable joy took a hike a long time ago. You know that there is a gulf between you and God, but you hesitate to discuss it with Him. Here’s inspiration for anyone feeling like they are stuck in neutral, in too deep or never had a chance in the first place. The author weaves compelling life stories into life lessons that we can all benefit from, especially if you struggle with staying on track, grappling with your past, familial upbringing and getting to the root of where you are out of sync spiritually and your walk with God. You’ll read how He can speak to us in glowing terms of nature or as simply as a crack in the ceiling.

Book Synopsis Cracking the Glass Ceiling by : Carole K. Adair
Download or read book Cracking the Glass Ceiling written by Carole K. Adair and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 1999 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Barriers which hinder career advancement of women are complex and varied. They have become top agenda items for most corporations and the gov-ernment. The "glass ceiling" is a term that symbolizes a variety of barriers that prevent qualified individuals from advancing higher in their organization. Although many women hold management positions, few have made the breakthrough to top-level positions. To determine what conditions are required for women to attain top executive positions, an ethnographic study was conducted at a hospital. The study was limited to four women who held executive positions: one associate administrator, one interim associate administrator, one director and the CEO. An in-depth data gathering technique using observation, interviews and documentation was used to investigate factors such as education/skills, influences, support, barriers and corporate culture. The findings revealed: (a) having opportunities to be participating, valued family members and to compete in activities while young helps girls to develop a sense of competence and mastery; (b) education, credential building experiences, certain competencies and being willing to take risks are necessary for success; (c) having certain attitudes and philosophies are crucial factors in their success; (d) mentors, network involvement and relationships with peers does affect mobility; (e) the women did have a career plan, not in the sense of a linear career plan, but rather one in the form of the spiral career concept; (f) the hospital is a structure which provides opportunities to develop careers; (g) the women understand, accept and have learned to adapt to the culture of the society in which they live and work; (h) the women are savvy at expressing, affirming and communicating the substance of their culture to others; (i) the amount of prejudice a woman encountered depended upon several components; and (j) the barriers to advancement experienced by the women do not confirm those discussed in the review of literature. Further research is recommended on the qualifications of male and female CEOs, educational programs most appropriate for female executives, how successful female executives learned to deal with their barriers and why certain organizations do not have top female executives.

Book Synopsis Crack Analysis in Structural Concrete by : Zihai Shi
Download or read book Crack Analysis in Structural Concrete written by Zihai Shi and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2009-06-17 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book on the fracture mechanics of concrete focuses on the latest developments in computational theories, and how to apply those theories to solve real engineering problems. Zihai Shi uses his extensive research experience to present detailed examination of multiple-crack analysis and mixed-mode fracture. Compared with other mature engineering disciplines, fracture mechanics of concrete is still a developing field with extensive new research and development. In recent years many different models and applications have been proposed for crack analysis; the author assesses these in turn, identifying their limitations and offering a detailed treatment of those which have been proved to be robust by comprehensive use. After introducing stress singularity in numerical modelling and some basic modelling techniques, the Extended Fictitious Crack Model (EFCM) for multiple-crack analysis is explained with numerical application examples. This theoretical model is then applied to study two important issues in fracture mechanics - crack interaction and localization, and fracture modes and maximum loads. The EFCM is then reformulated to include the shear transfer mechanism on crack surfaces and the method is used to study experimental problems. With a carefully balanced mixture of theory, experiment and application, Crack Analysis in Structural Concrete is an important contribution to this fast-developing field of structural analysis in concrete. Latest theoretical models analysed and tested Detailed assessment of multiple crack analysis and multi-mode fractures Applications designed for solving real-life engineering problems
