Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine if students enrolled in the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) perform any differently online as they would in a face-to-face course. The results of this study showed overall there was no difference in an online delivery course compared to the on-campus course. With respect to the age of the student, it was discovered the 22-30 year old category performed better in a traditional course than an online course. It was also discovered there was no significant difference between the delivery methods and the students cumulative GPA. A student's cumulative GPA (at the time they took the course) appeared to be a factor in predicting student performance in a course. On the other hand, 14% of the students earned a grade higher than their current grade point average in both online and face-to-face courses. Results of this study were consistent with findings discovered in the literature and showed students perform equally as well in the traditional and online delivery methods.

Book excerpt: The this study examined courses taught within a single College of Education over six semeters to compare face-to-face, hybrid, and online instructional methods as related to student achievement, persistence, and satisfaction. Additionally, a comparison of key student characteristics including sex, race/ethnicity, and residency status was conducted. This study extends the existing literature supporting "no meaningful significant difference" between instructional delivery methods by specifically focusing on courses of similar curriculum as offered within the specific discipline of educational studies. The results reinforce that administrators and instructors should continue to expand access to courses through the flexibility of online and hybrid learning. However, as programs expand their course offerings, further investigation is warranted into the barriers to hybrid and online learning for certain groups of educational studies students within this institution, including women, Asians, and out-of-state residents.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this quasi-experimental static-group comparison study was to test the theory of transactional distance that relates the inclusion of synchronous class sessions into an online introductory computer course to students' levels of satisfaction and academic achievement at a post-secondary technical college. This study specifically looked at the effects of adding live, synchronous class sessions into an online learning environment using collaboration software such as Blackboard Collaborate and the impact that this form of live interaction had on students' overall levels of satisfaction and academic achievement with the course. A quasi-experiment using the post-test only, static-group comparison design was utilized and conducted in an introductory computer class at a local technical college. It was determined that incorporating live, synchronous class sessions into an online course did not increase students' levels of achievement, nor did it result in improved test scores. Additionally, the study revealed that there was no significant difference in students' levels of satisfaction between those taking online courses using live, synchronous methods and those experiencing traditional online methods. In light of this evidence, further research needs to be conducted to determine if students prefer a completely asynchronous online learning experience or if, when, and how they would prefer a blended approach that offers synchronous sessions as well.

However, these plants and fungi used for food, medicine, and other purposes have not been fully incorporated into management, policy, and resource valuation. This report is a forest-sectorwide assessment of the state of the knowledge regarding NTFPs science and management information for U.S. forests and rangelands (and hereafter referred to as the NTFP assessment). The NTFP assessment serves as a baseline science synthesis and provides information for managing nontimber forest resources in the United States. In addition, this NTFP assessment provides information for national-level reporting on natural capital and the ecosystem services NTFPs provide. The report also provides technical input to the 2017 National Climate Assessment (NCA) under development by the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP).
