Book Synopsis Pediatric Restorative Dentistry by : Soraya Coelho Leal
Download or read book Pediatric Restorative Dentistry written by Soraya Coelho Leal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-11 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes and discusses the different restorative options for managing carious lesions in children with primary and mixed dentition. The aim is to provide practitioners with thorough, up-to-date information that will improve their clinical practice. The opening chapters present a comprehensive overview regarding diagnosis of carious lesions, risk assessment, child behavior and development, and behavioral management. The importance of oral health promotion and prevention in controlling lesion progression and maintaining oral health is reviewed. The impact of various factors on clinician decision making is then explained in detail, examples including the type of dentition (primary versus permanent), the clinical and radiographic aspect of the dentine carious lesion (noncavitated or cavitated), and whether the lesion is associated with a developmental defect. Guidance is provided on selection of nonoperative versus operative interventions, and the restorative materials most frequently used in pediatric dentistry are fully described, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages. Readers will also find an informative series of cases, with explanation of the choices in terms of materials and approach.

Book Synopsis Topical Fluorides. A literature review by : Kuldeep Dhama
Download or read book Topical Fluorides. A literature review written by Kuldeep Dhama and published by diplom.de. This book was released on 2017-04-25 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dental caries is a multi factorial, bacterial, chronic infection that affects millions of people in the world and has become a public health problem. Also referred to as tooth decay, this disease is one of the most common disorders throughout the world, second only to the common cold. Dental caries is the most common chronic childhood disease in the United States and is 5 to 7 times more common than asthma. According to the World Oral Health Report in 2003, dental caries affect 60-80% of school children and a vast majority of adults. Dental caries is a chronic bacterial infection of the hard tissue of the tooth that is characterized by alternating phases of demineralization and remineralization. Dental decay can lead to significant pain and dysfunction that can interfere with basic functions such as eating, sleeping, and speaking. If left untreated, dental caries can result in cavities forming and, eventually, tooth loss. Although the prevalence and severity of dental caries has decreased over the years, this disease can be controlled better with proper fluoride exposure. Fluoride dentifrices have been shown in numerous clinical trials to be effective anticaries agents and have been recognized as a major cause of the remarkable decline in caries prevalence in many developed countries. Dentifrices have been widely adopted around the world as the principle means of delivering topical fluoride and obtaining caries preventive benefits. Although there is documented literature on the use of topical fluorides, the issue needs to be further researched based on the recent documented literature and guidelines regarding use of topical fluorides. Hence, the present review was conducted with the aim to review the available literature on the use and effectiveness of different topical fluorides used in dentistry.
Book Synopsis Calcium Phosphates in Biological and Industrial Systems by : Zahid Amjad
Download or read book Calcium Phosphates in Biological and Industrial Systems written by Zahid Amjad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calcium Phosphates in Biological and Industrial Systems provides a comprehensive discussion on calcium phosphates in the diverse areas of their applications. The authors are all respected specialists in their particular fields, possessing wide knowledge and experience and able to analyze recent results and relate them to their respective areas of expertise. New information, as well as a review of current concepts, highlights the individual contributions. Due to the broad scope of the subject covered and the large number of contributions, this book is divided into three parts. Whilst each section contains a basic theme, there is a considerable overlapping of ideas and approaches. This reflects the excitement and interdisciplinary nature of investigations by researchers interested in dissimilar aspects of calcium phosphates. Considering the general interest in calcium phosphates, Calcium Phosphates in Biological and Industrial Systems is directed at an audience of researchers in the fields of biology, chemistry, dentistry, geology, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, and medicine. It will also be useful to technology-focused researchers in industry whose investigations might be related directly or indirectly to calcium phosphates.
