Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of basic multiplication mastery (0-12) and self-efficacy outcomes for elementary age students attempting to master multiplication facts in a Computer-Assisted Instructional (CAI) environment. Timez Attack (TA), a modern Internet based 3-D multiplication video game, was the computer program used in this study. Four third- and four fourth-grade classes of students at a public charter school received either 12 20-minute Teacher-Led Instructional (TLI), or TA multiplication practice sessions. Pre- and post Math Attitude Survey (MAS), timed multiplication tests, observations, and informal interviews were used to assess and compare TA and TLI's learning environments, performance, and self-efficacy outcomes. Both third- and fourth-grade TA students' level of multiplication mastery improved significantly after intervention. Results from the post-MAS also revealed significantly higher self-efficacy beliefs, and reduced nervousness in learning multiplication facts amongst some TA students. Statistical data analysis revealed no significant performance outcome differences between TLI and TA third-grade classes; however, post-test comparisons between fourth-grade TLI and TA students showed TA students significantly outperforming their comparison group counterparts by answering approximately 50% more problems in a given time and feeling significantly less nervous toward learning new multiplication math facts. The TA program's motivational, self-paced, and self-evaluative features seemed to produce a positive learning environment, which encouraged student learning. Educators should consider using CAI with features similar to TA's to improve students' academic performance and self-efficacy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This One-Sheet-A-Day math drill workbook is for 3rd grade students who want extra practice with two numbers, one or two digits multiplication. It contains 200 math practice sheets, one for each school day of the year. Upon completion, the student will be more competent in 3rd grade mathematics and ready to proceed with more difficult exercises. Unlike other math drill books, this is one of 24 workbooks created to establish a daily routine for each student to practice on their own from grades 1 through 7. It is specifically designed to gradually increase mathematic ability with the least amount of stress for both parent and student. Kids need to practice at home to support what they are learning in school, but finding resources to help with that goal can be daunting. It takes a lot of time searching online for free resources to print or for books with enough exercises. Beyond that, the options include going to libraries, enrolling them in an afterschool class or hiring a personal tutor. Who has the time and money for all of that? The answer is, not many parents. Each and every parent wants to provide enough practice work to their kids, but on top of the challenges in finding resources, questions remain about how much practice a child needs to boost educational success: twenty sheets of practice work a day? One sheet a week? What's the optimum practice work during a whole academic year? Confused? The authors have a decade of classroom expertise and have spent a large amount of time researching and wasting resources trying all the options for their own kids. Now you can benefit from what they have learnt. The result is finding out that "ONE-SHEET-A-DAY" is the optimum way to support classroom learning, and it is amazingly simple. This book eliminates the need to take home prints or run around franchises, bookstores and libraries trying to find enough material. It also prevents you from overwhelming your kids with too many math drill worksheets. There are approximately 200 school days a year. Simply have your child complete ONE per day. Work is far easier when it is part of a routine, especially for kids. The One-Sheet-per-Day program is an easy routine to start and maintain because it takes less than 20 minutes per day, using basic skills your child already knows. Simply take one sheet from the book, ask your child to complete it in a quiet place, and return it to you to check the answers, a painless routine for you and your child, and instant feedback for both of you. Geared to follow most math curriculums, most kids can do the appropriate sheet on their own based on what they are learning at school. "One-Sheet-A-Day" math practice drills will give your child practice they need to score higher on test day, and build confidence in their math abilities.

Book excerpt: The second edition of this book offers a unique approach to making mathematics education research on the teaching and learning of multiplication and division concepts readily accessible and understandable to preservice and in-service K-6 mathematics teachers. Revealing students’ thought processes with extensive annotated samples of student work and vignettes characteristic of classroom teachers’ experience, this book provides teachers a research-based lens to interpret evidence of student thinking, inform instruction, and ultimately improve student learning. Based on research gathered in the Ongoing Assessment Project (OGAP) and updated throughout, this engaging and easy-to-use resource also features the following: New chapters on the OGAP Multiplicative Reasoning Framework and Learning Progressions and Using the OGAP Multiplicative Progression to inform instruction and support student learning In-chapter sections on how Common Core State Standards for Math are supported by math education research Case Studies focusing on a core mathematical idea and different types of instructional responses to illustrate how teachers can elicit evidence of student thinking and use that information to inform instruction Big Ideas frame the chapters and provide a platform for meaningful exploration of the teaching of multiplication and division Looking Back Questions at the end of each chapter allow teachers to analyze student thinking and to consider instructional strategies for their own students Instructional Links to help teachers relate concepts from each chapter to their own instructional materials and programs Accompanying online Support Material that includes an answer key to Looking Back questions, as well as a copy of the OGAP Fraction Framework and Progression A Focus on Multiplication and Division is part of the popular A Focus on . . . collection, designed to aid the professional development of preservice and in-service mathematics teachers. As with the other volumes on addition and subtraction, ratios and proportions, and fractions, this updated new edition bridges the gap between what math education researchers know and what teachers need to know to better understand evidence in student work and make effective instructional decisions.

Children need many experiences grouping and separating objects to understand the meaning of these two operations. They also need to see and use number facts (such as 3 5 and 12 4) in a variety of contexts, such as in describing sets of objects or pictures, or solving word problems, in order to achieve mastery. Research has shown that repetition is essential for the brain to learn and recall information. This book provides repeated practice with fun, motivating activities that will help your child develop the skills and confidence that lead to success! Upon your childs completion of each activity, use the provided incentive chart and stickers to track progress and celebrate your childs success. Whether students need extra practice with grade-level skills or a head start on next year, Stick Kids Workbooks offer engaging activities, games, and puzzles that help make learning lots of fun.
