This book was released on 2015 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this retrospective quantitative study was to describe and compare the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) first-time pass rates of students who participated in an optional NCLEX-RN review course with those who did not among 2012-2014 Associate Degree Nurse (ADN) graduates from a northeastern Minnesota community college. The successful completion of the ADN program at a northeastern Minnesota community college and participation in an optional NCLEX-RN exam review course were the factors used to describe and determine dependence with NCLEX-RN exam first time pass rates. A non-probability convenience sample of 220 ADN graduates was used, and the data from this sample were then analyzed using an open source software called R (R Development Core Team, 2008).The statistical technique used was the Fisher's Exact Test. The research variable was the pass rate of students taking the NCLEX-RN exam. There were no statistically significant findings related to age, ethnicity, cumulative GPA, or gender on the passing rate of the NCLEX-RN exam. The researcher concluded that further research is needed to determine whether other factors including program entrance exam criteria, foundational nursing course grades, the student's first language, or the amount of time between graduation and taking the NCLEX-RN exam affect the outcome.

Book Synopsis The Relationship Among Health Education Systems, Inc. Progression and Exit Examination Scores, Day Or Evening Enrollment, Final Grade Point Average and NCLEX-RN Success in Associate Degree Nursing Students by : Pamela Barnwell-Sanders
Download or read book The Relationship Among Health Education Systems, Inc. Progression and Exit Examination Scores, Day Or Evening Enrollment, Final Grade Point Average and NCLEX-RN Success in Associate Degree Nursing Students written by Pamela Barnwell-Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graduates of associate degree (AD) nursing programs form the largest segment of first-time National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) test takers, yet also experience the highest rate of NCLEX-RN failures. NCLEX-RN failure delays entry into the profession, adding an emotional and financial toll to the unsuccessful AD candidate. Studies concerning factors contributing to first-time success on the NCLEX-RN may include AD graduates, but primarily focus on baccalaureate degree nursing program graduates. Commercially available progression specialty examinations and exit examinations attempt to identify students at risk for failure on the NCLEX-RN. In an effort to increase first-time pass rates, many schools of nursing have implemented such examinations to better prepare nursing students for the NCLEX-RN examination. The present study sought to determine whether progression testing, using standardized computerized tests throughout the program, contributed to the success of AD nursing students taking the NCLEX-RN licensure examination for the first time. The study employed a retrospective, descriptive correlational design at a single two-year associate degree nursing program at a private college in the northeast. A convenience sample of the records of 410 nursing students, who graduated from the nursing program in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013, were identified. The most reliable predictor of NCLEX-RN success was end-of-program grade point average. The study found no significant correlation with the initiation and use of computerized standardized testing and NCLEX-RN outcomes. Lastly, there was no difference in NCLEX-RN outcomes based on student enrollment in the day or evening AD nursing program.

Book Synopsis Identifying Predictors of Success for the Computerized NCLEX-RN in Associate Degree Nursing Graduates by : Tina Marie Kline
Download or read book Identifying Predictors of Success for the Computerized NCLEX-RN in Associate Degree Nursing Graduates written by Tina Marie Kline and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 47 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Failure of the NCLEX-RN is a significant problem with a farther reaching impact than just the individual student and program of nursing. Every student who is unsuccessful on the exam is one less registered nurse to provide patient care; therefore, increasing NCLEX-RN pass rates is essential to addressing the ongoing nursing shortage. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship among nursing curriculum grade point average, performance in the biological science courses, performance in the theory portion of fundamentals and medical-surgical nursing courses, performance on the Assessment Technologies Institute RN comprehensive predictor examination, and role transition setting and success on the NCLEX-RN examination. Approval was obtained from the governing institution and community college's internal review board, to conduct a record review of the graduating nursing classes. Logistical regression was then performed to identify significant predictors of NCLEX success, including ACT and COMPASS reading scores, biological science GPA, performance in medical-surgical nursing courses, and ATI comprehensive predictor performance. Statistical analysis indicated that ACT/COMPASS reading scores, nursing curriculum and biological science GPA, and ATI comprehensive predictor performance were significant predictors of NCLEX-RN performance.
