Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of buckling loads, which often hinges on numerical methods, is key in designing structural elements. But the need for analytical solutions in addition to numerical methods is what drove the creation of Exact Solutions for Buckling of Structural Members. It allows readers to assess the reliability and accuracy of solutions obtained by nume

Book Synopsis Calculating the Critical Buckling Stress for Plates with One Free Edge Under Combined Axial and Flexural Forces by : Rebecca Curtis
Download or read book Calculating the Critical Buckling Stress for Plates with One Free Edge Under Combined Axial and Flexural Forces written by Rebecca Curtis and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the review of the literature, formulas and/or buckling coefficients were available for many combinations of plate loading and restraint, but did not include the specific case needed for assessment of gusset plates. Using the energy method and the work of Timoshenko, and Lindquist and Stowell as a basis, equations were developed to find the critical buckling stress for a plate having simply supported loaded edges, a simply supported unloaded edge and a free loaded edge. The equations developed are applicable to rectangular plates with any length to width ratio and also to any combination of linear-varying stress.

Download or read book Stresses in Beams, Plates, and Shells written by Ansel C. Ugural and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2009-08-26 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noted for its practical, student-friendly approach to graduate-level mechanics, this volume is considered one of the top references—for students or professioals—on the subject of elasticity and stress in construction. The author presents many examples and applications to review and support several foundational concepts. The more advanced concepts in elasticity and stress are analyzed and introduced gradually, accompanied by even more examples and engineering applications in addition to numerous illustrations.Chapter problems are carefully arranged from the basic to the more challenging. The author covers computer methods, including FEA and computational/equation-solving software, and, in many cases, classical and numerical/computer approaches.

Book Synopsis Plastic Buckling of a Rectangular Plate Under Edge Thrusts by : G. H. Handelman
Download or read book Plastic Buckling of a Rectangular Plate Under Edge Thrusts written by G. H. Handelman and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental equations for the plastic buckling of a rectangular plate under edge thrust are developed on the basis of a new set of stress-strain relations for the behavior of a metal in the plastic range. These relations are derived for buckling from a state of uniform compression. The fundamental equation for the buckling of a simply compressed plate together with typical boundary conditions is then developed and the results are applied to calculating the buckling loads of a thin strip, a simply supported plate, and a cruciform section. Comparisons with the theories of Timoshenko and Ilyushin are made. Finally, an energy method is given which can be used for finding approximate values of the critical load.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Postbuckling by : Frederick Bloom
Download or read book Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Postbuckling written by Frederick Bloom and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop searching through the endless amount of literature to find the most recent information on plate buckling. The authors of Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Post Buckling have already done the work for you. Detailed and clearly written, the book contains a comprehensive, up-to-date treatment of the buckling and postbuckling behavior of perfect and imperfect thin plates. The authors study, in detail and with specific solved examples, the essential factors that influence critical buckling loads, initial mode shapes, and postbuckling behavior for thin plates. Through their analysis of rectangular, circular, and annular plates, they present valuable information, some of which has never before been published in book form. Such topics include hygrothermal buckling, viscoelastic and plastic buckling, and buckling of various thickness plates. With this important collection, the Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Post Buckling provides you with a one-stop source of current research findings.

Book Synopsis The Influence of Prebuckling Deformations and Stresses on the Buckling of Perfect Cylinders by : Manuel Stein
Download or read book The Influence of Prebuckling Deformations and Stresses on the Buckling of Perfect Cylinders written by Manuel Stein and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large-deflection theory is used to compute buckling loads of simply supported initially perfect cylinders under axial compression, external pressure, and combinations of axial compression and internal or external pressure. Important results are obtained by taking into account prebuckling deformations and stresses induced by edge support. For example, the presence of these deformations and stresses can reduce the axial-compression buckling load of an unpressurized perfect cylinder to 50 percent of the classical value.
